S T Thursday Helpful Tips From Your Public Works Department Household Garbage Household garbage consists of everyday items such as waste paper, food, etc. Your household garbage can will be delivered within 5 days of your move-in date, and your first one day per week pickup will begin thereafter. The schedule is listed on the back of this brochure. Our garbage trucks run Monday through Friday, including most holidays, from 7:00 a.m. until their route is finished. Our holiday pickups are noted on US Cable Channel 12, the radio and in the newspaper. Please place your can curbside by 7:00 a.m. on your scheduled garbage day. Garbage placed around or on top of the can or garbage in non-issued cans will not be picked up since our drivers are on a very tight schedule to finish their route. Yard Trash Limbs, leaves, clippings, etc. from yard maintenance by you consisting of a pile no larger than 8 feet long by 6 feet wide by 3 feet deep (5.25 cubic yards) will be picked up at no charge. However, due to state laws, yard trimmings cannot be placed in the household garbage cans for pickup. We have a separate crew to handle yard trimmings that runs on a different schedule from your household garbage pick up. For the pick up of yard trash the City is divided into zones and currently there are nine zones. A zone is not repeated until all zones have been picked up. Please place limbs and sticks in one unbagged pile and grass clippings and leaves in another unbagged pile. These piles may be placed sideby-side, but no more than 8 feet from the edge of pavement or in piles no larger than 8’x6’x3’ (5.25 cu.yds.). Large limbs (longer than 8 feet or larger than 3 inches in diameter) and large quantities of tree limbs consisting of piles larger than 8’x6’x3’ (5.25 cu.yds.) and all tree removal or excessive tree trimming must be disposed of by you. Any work done by a contractor must be disposed of by the contractor. It may not be at the top of your list of moving concerns, but as soon as you start unpacking, we are sure garbage pickup will come to mind quickly. In order to help your move into our area as smooth as possible, our Public Works Dept. has created this brochure covering the who, what, when and where of garbage and trash pickup. eral have What should I do about garbage? Large Household Items White goods, such as washers, dryers, stoves and refrigerators are picked up free of charge. Doors must be removed from all refrigerators and freezers. We are currently also picking up large items such as sofas, swing sets, and mattresses free of charge on a trail basis. The above items are picked up each Friday. However, you will need to notify us when you place such an item next to the curb. The many regulations made what new state and fed- used to be a very simple issue into a complicated one. Items Not Accepted We will not pick up large bundles of waste consisting of piles exceeding 8’x6’x3’ (5.25 cu. Yds.) or any tree stumps, logs, tree removal, lot clearing, landscaping (new or remodeling), building materials, concrete, batteries, any liquids, tires, or any material or items from work done by paid workers or contractors. You need to make arrangements for their removal. Recycling We have recycling trailers for corrugated boxes, aluminum cans, office paper and newspapers, located behind the our Public Works facility on Point Peter Road. Currently our recycling program is voluntary, with the exception of large quantities of corrugated boxes which must be taken to the recycling trailers. You can drop off the items listed at your convenience. All items must be separated. We hope that this answers all of the questions you may have, but should you need to talk with one of our team members, please feel free to contact us at 882-4415.
