Letter Naming Fluency, Letter Sound Fluency, and Nonsense Word Fluency are used to predict which students are on the path for
reading success. We use these measures to predict oral reading fluency which is then used to predict likelihood of passing the 3rd
Grade MCA-II.
Scores greater than and equal to the Tier 1 target are highly likely to be successful readers by 3rd Grade.
Tier 1 -indicates at least a 75% chance of meeting Grade 1 Targets
Tier 2 -indicates a probability of 26-74% - often referred to as the 50-50% group - in meeting Grade 1 Targets
Tier 3 -indicates at best a 25% chance of meeting Grade 1 Targets
