UNIT 1 "BUILDING BLOCKS OF LIFE"
NOTES: ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY INTRODUCTION
ANATOMY - branch of science that deals with the study of the form and
structure of the human body.
PHYSIOLOGY- branch of science that deals with the study of the functions
in the human body
How is the structure of something related to its function? Give an example.
II. ORGANIZATION OF THE HUMAN BODY:
ATOMS - made of protons, neutrons, & electrons.
MOLECULES - made of atoms held together by bonds.
CELLS - made of molecules that organize to become organelles.
TISSUES - made of similar cells that specialize for a common function.
ORGANS - made of similar tissue working together for a common function.
SYSTEMS - a group of organs that work together for a common function.
ORGANISM - a complete living body made of atoms, molecules, cells, tissues,
organs, and organ systems working together to sustain life.
