Project Safe Place There are times when a young person needs a safe place to stay as he or she tries to work out problems. Daybreak provides these youths with short term emergency shelter, food, and support while the staff works with them and their families to resolve the crisis at hand. Project Safe Place is an outreach program set up by Daybreak. For many young people, reaching a “Safe Place” is the first step toward finding shelter and help from Daybreak. Daybreak is the Miami Valley’s only 24-hour crisis and emergency shelter for runaway and homeless youth. Daybreak provides counseling, shelter, and aftercare programs to youths ages 10-17. Daybreak reaches over 5,000 area youth by providing services and programs. There are several Safe Place locations in Moraine. All three Moraine Fire Stations, as well as Payne Recreation Center and the Gerhardt Civic Center, are safe places, with staff trained in procedures on getting youths in touch with Daybreak while keeping them in a safe environment. Moraine Fire Stations are open 24 hours. Look for the “Project Safe Place” signs. Emergency help can be obtained by calling Daybreak at 937-395-4600. The City of Moraine Parks and Recreation is proud to be able to offer this cutting edge material for our participants. Please read the descriptions for each class. Your child may not have “mastered” all of the skills of the level they were enrolled in before summer. Please remember that each child progresses at their own rate, and should not be rushed. It is very normal for a child to have to take the same level over several times before mastering all of the skills. Prematurely advancing your child will be detrimental not only to them but to the others if skills which were necessary are not proficient. Pre-Level 1 (4 – 5 years of age) This class is perfect for the student who is not quite old enough for Level 1, however, has mastered the skills presented in PreSchool. Students should have some comfort level in the water and the ability to work with an instructor in the water without a parent. The student should have participated in at least 2 prior sessions of swim instruction and be comfortable in the water. Personal skills that are necessary are listening, and being able to wait their turn. Permission from a Pre-School instructor or supervisor is necessary.
