GOLF
Golf is a science. The study of a lifetime, in which
you can exhaust yourself but never your subject. It
is a contest, a duel calling for courage, skill, strategy
and self-control. It is a test of temper, a trial of
honour, and revealer of character. It affords a
chance to play the man and act the gentleman.
It means going into God's out of doors, getting close
to nature, fresh air and exercise. A sweeping of
mental cobwebs and a genuine relaxation of tired
tissues.
It is a cure for care, an antidote for worry; it offers
companionship with friends, opportunities for
courtesy and for generosity to an opponent. It
promotes not only the physical health but moral
force.
It cannot be over emphasised that the fundamental
rule is consideration for one's fellow members.

DRESS REGULATIONS
Clothing for modern golf needs to be comfortable. However for the enjoyment of all
golfers a minimum dress standard is required. Players are asked to be neat and tidy on the
golf course and in the clubhouse.
The following minimum clothing is required. Slacks, jeans or dress shorts with shoes and
socks. Shirts need to have collars. The wearing of hats and the use of block out is
encouraged as protection against the sun.
UNACCEPTABLE CLOTHES
The following clothing is unacceptable in the clubhouse on the golf course and the bowling
greens.
Tracksuits, football shorts and stubbies, collarless shirts, t-shirts and singlets, football
jumpers and frayed clothing including frayed jeans
Scuff thongs, bare feet overall boiler suits
Please note: Regulation bowls shoes and hats must be worn.
Please be neat and tidy
NOTES TO MEMBERS
The Club is not responsible for the loss of or injury to property or person of any Member in or
about the premises. Valuables should be locked up or handed in for safekeeping.
GENERAL
Unauthorized Members are not permitted to enter the Managers Office or Bar.
No canvassing for donations, raffles or the like is allowed in or about the Club premises unless
permission is obtained from the Manager.
Members or guests are not permitted under any circumstances to reprimand any officer or
servant of the club.
Complaints in regard to the staff must be submitted to the Manager or in their absence, to a
Member of the General Committee. Verbal complaints must be followed by confirmation in
writing.
Bar
Service at the Bar is available during the following hours.
Sunday – 11 am to 10 pm
Monday & Tuesday - 10 am to 10 pm
Wednesday & Thursday - 10 am to 11 pm
Friday & Saturday - 10 am to 1 am
Members under 18 years may not approach the Bar at any time.
Liquor may be taken away from the Clubhouse during the hours the bar is open.
PRIVATE FUNCTIONS
The facilities of the club are available for private functions.
Further particulars may be obtained from the Club. Telephone 5352 4297.
NOTES TO MEMBERS
It is the responsibility of the proposer and seconder of a new member to see that he or she is
completely assimilated into club life. They should introduce the new member to club officials
and members, inform him of club rules and above all ensure that the new member is sufficiently
familiar with the rules and etiquette of the game.
A member, who brings a visitor for golf or for the use of other facilities, must place his or her
name in the Visitor's Book, and pay the prescribed fee (if any). The member is responsible for
the visitors on the course and in the clubhouse and ensures that dress conforms to club rules.
Chalambar Golf Club welcomes visitors to join in Club events but reminds visitors that they are
ineligible to win Monthly Medal and Honour Board events.
Summer members are welcome to participate in board events including club championships and
whilst able to claim daily trophies, are ineligible to claim titles.
ETIQUETTE OF THE GAME
OF GOLF
CAPTAIN OF THE TEAM
The lowest marker of each playing group is the captain and is therefore responsible for the
efficient control of course etiquette.
CALLING THROUGH
It is a traditional rule that following players are called through if they are moving faster and
should always be called it the preceding players are a fairway's length ahead of you.
To avoid undue loss of time the following procedure should be followed if calling through:
particularly when a ball is lost.
(a) If a ball is not immediately apparent on reaching the spot, call the following players
through immediately. Do not commence a search before calling waiting players.
(b) If the ball is found before the last players following have played, hold up a club. The
captain of the following match, the lowest handicapped player, should then send you on.
(c) If the ball is not found until the following players have played both formations may play
the next shot to the green and both parties move up the fairway together. At the green the
called players should complete the hole first and go through.
This simple procedure should clear the hole for later players and cause the least delay for all
concerned.
COMPETITION FEES
Unless where amount is OTHERWISE STATED a competition fee of $8.00 per player per
competition will be paid to a person on duty.
Thursday and Friday nine holes events will be $2.00 to be placed in envelope prior to play with
player's name on same. (The same procedure applies to Veteran’s sponsored 12 hole
competitions) Thursday 18 Hole competition fee is $3.00
All players are to check handicap board and local rules before COMMENCEMENT OF PLAY.
Visitors, who are introduced by and play with a member, shall pay half green fees. This
condition applies to Saturday competitions only.

Ordinary
Any person, male or female, over the age of eighteen years elected in accordance with Rule 3
and may use all facilities of the Club
Country A
As above but resides outside a radius of 32 km from the Clubhouse
Country B
As above but resides outside a radius of 80 km from the Clubhouse
Senior
A person who has been an ordinary member for ten years on attaining the age of 70 years may
continue to enjoy ordinary membership rights by paying a reduced fee membership fee.
Social
Such members may have the privileges of the Clubhouse facilities and the use of the practice
putting greens only
Provisional
Members are entitled to use all facilities of the Club, except –
They shall not be able to play in any competition event except on social days. They shall not be
entitled to hold office in the Club or become a member of the committee. They shall not remain
longer than 12 months as a provisional member unless the Committee otherwise approves
Junior
Persons under the age of eighteen years on the 1 st October each year or under the age of 21 years
but a full-time student.
Summer
Persons who wish to play golf during the period of daylight savings season only

HAVE YOU READ THE LOCAL RULE BOARD
CHALAMBAR GOLF CLUB
CODES OF CONDUCT
The Chalambar Golf Club Code of Conduct shall apply in all Championships, major events and
competitions conducted at Chalambar Golf Club in addition to other requirements of players as
specified by tournament conditions, local rules and by-laws.
On entering an event at Chalambar Golf Club, each player voluntarily submits to exceptional
standards of behavior and ethical conduct. The highest degree of sportsmanship is expected
from every player.
Players are under obligation to avoid acts that are unsportsman like and detrimental to the game
of golf or bowls.
Violations as detailed below are regarded as unacceptable and inappropriate conduct and may
render the player subject to action as determined by the Chalambar Golf Club Committee.
1. Any player who, during any Championship, approved tournament or activity within the
precincts of the course or clubhouse engages in conduct that prejudices the integrity of
the game of golf or bowls.
2. Any player who at any time physically abuses any official, opponent, spectator or other
person within the precincts of the golf course, bowls rink or clubhouse.
3. Any player who used profane or abusive language, throws or breaks clubs, willfully
damages the course/ rinks in anyway, criticizes the course/rinks, competition or
sponsor or other officials connected with the competition or behaves on the
course/rinks or within the precincts of the clubhouse in such a manner as to bring
discredit to the game of golf or bowls.
4. Any player observing a breach of the Code by another player during an event when the
breach is known by the player or they should have reasonably have realized that the
breach may have occurred fails to co-operate in an inquire.
5. Any player guilty of deliberately breaking the rules of golf or bowls.
6. Any player who fails to comply with the rules of golf or bowls as amended by local
rules in force at any event or who fails to comply with any other rules, bylaws,
directions or instructions as specified by Chalambar Golf Club Committee.
7. Any player who deliberately undertakes measures in order to manipulate their
handicap.
8. Any player who commits a criminal offence against the club or officials where the
event is being played e.g. damage theft of club or official's property.
9. Any player who repeatedly commits infringements of Golf or Bowls Etiquette.
10. Any player who refuses to comply with the Chalambar Golf Club's dress regulations as
specified.
11. Any player who continually fails to play without undue delay.
DISCIPLINARY ACTION
During an event, if there is a breach of the Code of Conduct it shall be reported to the
Chalambar Golf Club committee who may refer the breach to the nominated Disciplinary
Committee.
After consideration, the Disciplinary Committee has the authority to impose penalties in
accordance with those below.
PENALTIES
Each breach of the Chalambar Golf club's code of conduct will be considered on the basis of
all available facts relevant to the alleged incident.
Following consideration, the Committee of the event in which the incident occurred and/or, the
Disciplinary Committee, has the discretion to impose an applicable penalty relevant to the
particular misdemeanor committed by the player.
In general, penalties will range as follows:
Recommendation that the player's membership be suspended for a set period of time.
Payment of damage etc. incurred by a player through breach of the code of conduct.
Other applicable penalties as directed by the Chalambar Disciplinary Committee.
Upon determining that a player has breached the Chalambar Golf Club's code of conduct and
having imposed an applicable penalty, it should be noted that the Chalambar Golf Club would
formally inform the player.
In addition, breaches that the Disciplinary Committee classifies as a major infringement will
be tabled at Chalambar's Monthly Meeting and recorded in the minutes.
LADY MEMBERS
Ladies are reminded that the following
Rules should be observed
Competitor enters her name on the Competition Sheet and/or pays the appropriate Entry Fee.
Each player is responsible for playing on her correct handicap.
Handicaps must be shown on Score Cards at all times.
The competitor is solely responsible for the correctness of the score recorded for each hole and
should check her score, settle any doubtful points with the Committee, ensure that the marker
has signed the card, countersign the card herself and return it to the Committee as soon as
possible. No alteration may be made to the card after the competitor has returned it to the
Committee.
Players are responsible for their own handicaps. To ensure handicaps are correct players must
make sure all cards are handed to the handicap manager, thus ensuring exact handicaps are kept.
Please be on the tee 10 minutes before starting time.
These fixtures are subject to any alteration deemed necessary by the Committee.
All complaints must be sent to the Ladies' Honorary Secretary in writing.
Observance of rules and etiquette is the duty of each player and the responsibility of the lowest
marker in each group.
The player shall be responsible for acquainting herself with the conditions under which the
competition is to be played.
Players should watch the notice board for all notices, local rules etc. there posted.
COMPETITIONS
The Match Committee is responsible for the conditions under which a competition is played and
reserves the right to change, alter any date, or cancel or vary any competition.
FOUR BALL BEST BALL PAR
Two players play as partners each taking strokes at holes as in a par competition. If one of the
partners wins a hole and the other halves it, only the one win is counted. If one halves a hole
with par and the other loses it only the half is counted and so on. Plus, half and minus signs are
added at the end of the round and recorded as in an ordinary par competition.
In a four ball handicap event care must be taken to mark the scores of each player in separate
columns headed by the initials of the player. If the scores are mixed and it is difficult for the
Committee to check the card the players may be disqualified.
FOUR BALL BEST BALL STABLEFORD
Played in exactly the same manner as above except that the better ball of the partnership will be
credited with points instead of plus, half or minus.
FOURSOMES
Two players play as partners and use one ball. The partners strike off alternately from the tee
and thereafter strike the ball alternately during the play at each hole. Scoring is done as for a
stroke round and the total is subject to a deduction of half the partners aggregate handicaps.
NOTE - If either player incurs a penalty stroke it does not alter the rotation of play. In
foursomes stroke play competition which consists of more than one stipulated round the order of
play may be changed between rounds unless the Committee has laid down as a condition of play
that the original order of play must be preserved throughout the competition.
MIXED FOUR BALL BEST BALL
PAR OR STABLEFORD
These games are played as described previously except that the Associate plays from her own
tees, uses her own score card, local rules etc. The result is only transferred to her partner's card
when her score for the hole is better than his. Care must be taken when checking the card to
refer to the Associate's card when dealing with holes halved or won by her.
There are some variations to this depending on the Club. In some instances the Associate plays
on her full handicap using the Associate's card as described above. In other cases in 7/8
handicap using the Associate's card. Again, she may be on full handicap and using the men's
card. There are also exceptional instances where Associate's play from a 3/4 handicap and the
men's card is used. These last two methods are the least satisfactory.
MIXED FOURSOMES
Mixed foursomes are played in the same manner as foursomes except that the Associates use
their own tees and observe their own local rules when it is their turn to play.
The Committee should lay down as a condition of play whether the member or associate is
required to play from the first tee, and in competitions played under stroke conditions, and
consisting of more than one stipulated round, whether this order is to be preserved.
CANADIAN FOURSOMES
Played as above except that both players play tee shots at every hole and afterwards continue
with whichever ball they nominate. Handicap allowance - 3/8 of aggregate.
AMERICAN FOURSOMES - PINEHURST
Both players play tee shots at each hole, then play a second stroke with their partner's ball. One
ball is then selected and play proceeds as in foursomes with the owner of the ball selected
playing the third stroke. Handicap allowance is 3/8 of aggregate stroke handicap for stroke
competitions and it is the same for par or stableford.
This event is sometimes called "Pinehurst Foursomes".
MEDLEY COMPETITION
Played as four ball either Par or Stableford - but two men or two Associates or a man and an
Associate may pair.
Associates play on 3/4 of their stroke handicap using their own card or full handicap using the
men's card.
AMBROSE THREESOMES OR FOURSOMES
Handicap - 1/2 combined handicaps divided by the number of players.
Method of play:
1. Lowest marker is Captain of each group.
2. All shots, are played in order of handicap with highest marker playing first.
3. All players drive from the tee. Best ball is then selected and other balls are lifted and pla ced
within 6 inches of position of selected ball. Play proceeds in this manner until ball is holed.
CHAPMAN FOURSOMES
Both players play 2 shots at each hole with their own ball. One ball is then selected and play
proceeds as in foursomes with the partner of the owner of the ball playing the third shot.
Handicap is 3/8 of aggregate stroke handicap.
All the foregoing competitions are forms of stroke play and subject to the Rules governing
stroke play. Special rules for par and stableford competitions are set out in Rule 39. Rule 41
covers the special rules for four-ball par and stableford competitions.
Foursomes may be played under either stroke play rules or match play conditions and Rule 15
and definitions 10, 23 and 28 are relevant to foursome’s events.
In addition to the competitions listed above many clubs conduct competitions that are not
specifically covered in the Rules of Golf.
Some of the more popular types of play are listed above together with suggestions regarding
methods of conduction of these events.
