At this stage even, I must take the opportunity to congratulate you for making a decision that is right in so many ways. today’s business the world over. MDI’s various academic initiatives have already been accredited by the AICTE and globally by the AMBA (Association of MBAs, UK) and/or awaiting the quality accreditation by the EQUIS, AACSB and other accrediting bodies. Further, ours is the school in the country providing perhaps the largest number and variety of business programmes for continuing education in management again designed uniquely with a global perspective through international interaction. We believe that ‘ignited young minds’ charged with eternal values of India is the resource the country needs today to build a better tomorrow and this is our guiding thought at MDI. My best wishes for your search for a career in management.

THE INSTITUTE
MDI is one of the top 5 B-schools of the country. The institute integrates knowledge, research, industry experience and international exposure to offer comprehensive management programmes.
MDI is a front runner B-school of India. Its PGPM (2 year full time MBA equivalent programme) has been awarded “A” Grade by the ‘National Board of Accreditation’ of All India Council for Technical Education. Various Surveys have consistently ranked MDI amongst the top five B-Schools of the country. The board members of MDI include eminent personalities from both industry as well as academia. The board meets every quarter. MDI follows an organizational chart that has four layers. MDI is headed by its director, followed by three Deans – Dean (Academic Programmes), Dean (Continuing Education Programmes & Consultancy), and Dean (Centres, Research Projects & Strategic Planning). This is followed by Chairpersons of institutional Activities, Management Areas and academic staff. The final layer consists of non academic support staff. All academic activities are faculty driven. The faculty body decides on the curriculum content, delivery, duration etc. of each programme. The Education Programmes bouquet comprises of two-year full-time PGPM, PGP-HR and PGP-IM, 15-month National Management Programme, three-year part time Executive Management Programme, PG Diploma in Energy Management
and PG Diploma in Public Policy and Management (PGPPM) and Doctoral level FPM and Executive FPM. MDI has been a pioneer and market leader in the area of Continuing Education in Management. With over 33 years of experience in this field, MDI conducts nearly 200 weeks of intensive short-term training programmes each year, aimed at Executives and Managers at middle and senior levels. These include open programmes, as well as customized organization specific training modules. The approach adopted at MDI integrates latest knowledge with best practices through integrated business school activities that support organizations in their ‘pursuit for excellence’. MDI offers consulting services in the different functional areas of management. The driving force at MDI is a dedicated team of distinguished faculty who have extensive experience and expertise in diverse fields. Over the years, there has been distinctive shift in emphasis from helping design and implementing policies, systems and processes in functional domains to cross-functional domains. The institute is recognized by the industry (public and private), the Government (Central and State) and the NGOs for providing quality services to its clients.
MDI always strives to provide high quality, cost-effective and timely services to its clients. It has remained contemporary through its primary focus on research, adapting to change and developing innovative strategies to facilitate the process of change in the dynamic business environment. The institutes’ clients say that it has been able to add value to them by bringing in a strong cross-functional emphasis in their approach to carry out business. As part of its strong research focus, MDI supports the following research initiatives : • Centre for Supply Chain Management • Centre for Excellence in Information Management • Centre for Entrepreneurship • Centre for Transformational Leadership • Centre for Corporate Governance The PGPM at MDI is 13 years old. The programme is ranked among the very best in the country and therefore, is one of the most sought after PGPM programmes in the country. This has been achieved over the years by combination of three important elements – a very rigorous admission process, followed by academic rigour and finally, excellent placements. The admission process involves two stages. In the first stage, students are short-listed on the basis of CAT score and called for GD and personal interviews. For the PGP-HR programme admission programmes are as rigorous as PGPM programme. The students are based on appropriate tests and subsequently selected through simulation exercises or GD and PIs.
Academic rigour involves the programme structure and delivery. The two years programme provides rigorous academic input combined with constant industry interactions. As a result, the final placements of the students have been very encouraging. ‘Placements’ at MDI is a student driven activity supported by the faculty. 100% placements have been achieved on day 1 of placements for several years now. MDI conducts its own online tests for its other programmes – the Executive PGDBM, PG Diploma in Energy Management, PG Diploma in Public Policy and Management and Fellow & Executive Fellow Programmein Management (FPM and EFPM). A stringent admission procedure is followed for admission into these programmes as well. MDI maintains high levels of academic excellence in management. It has over 80 full-time faculty who have several years of experience either as academicians or having worked at senior positions in the industry. The faculty is thus able to deliver a healthy mix of practical insights and academic rigour in the classroom. MDI also has strong links with leading International Business Schools, which aids in delivering a globalized management curriculum. As part of the global initiatives, students and faculty exchange is regular, and joint research projects are also undertaken. Above all, MDI has a well developed state-of-the-art infrastructure, which includes a library with a collection of over 54,000 volumes, and online access to international journals, a computer centre with over 300 PCs, airconditioned lecture halls and syndicate rooms, besides a host of other recreational facilities.

A thriving IEP ensures that two out of every three students enrolled for PGPM get an opportunity to study abroad. Other programmes such as the NMP and several MDPs also have an international component. Under the exchange programme, nearly 150 students from MDI go abroad. The number of international students studying at MDI campus have also increased over the years and MDI’s exchange programme is one of the largest in the country. MDI nurtures a vision to be a truly global business school. As economic networks gained eminence over geographic boundaries, MDI realized the emerging role of international markets and the need for B-Schools to groom managers with international perspective. The process of building linkages was started more than eight years ago. As on date, MDI has partnerships in almost every continent of the globe. In fact MDI is the first BSchool from India to get into partnerships with countries in Africa which reflects on MDI’s efforts to be a truly global B-School. However, MDI insists on partnering with only the top 5 business schools of any country with an additional condition that the partnering B-School has an extensive international agenda for its activities. What started as a student exchange programme has additionally evolved into an intellectual exchange of faculty, research and academic materials, and development of collaboration projects. strenuous game of tennis or take in the sights of the campus in the cool morning air with a quick jog. It’s time then for a sumptuous breakfast which one can enjoy with a newspaper as one catches up on events for the day. Class, case discussions, quizzes, presentations, pre-readings and the odd bit of coffee that one can snatch from the conveniently located vending machine are regulars. Lunch. More aptly power lunch, as one catches up with friends and discusses concepts and ideas and prepares for the afternoon session of industry interaction. Industry interaction is the most exciting phase as one meets stalwarts from the industry and learns how the concepts of the morning session are implemented in practice. One also gets to learn from their rich experience and that is also the chance to share one’s new ideas over high tea. Entrepreneurship at its very best. Then it’s time to unwind with a game of football at the Jhajhi greens, or a game of volleyball at the volleyball court. Play hard, for it’s tough to win. For a Mandevian sport is like business. One only plays to win. Then it’s time to catch up with friends over lemonade while one discusses and plans out the rest of the day’s activities. As evening falls over the campus, the Mandevian typically walks into the cool confines of the cavernous library, does pre readings, research and prepares for next day’s classes. Comes back for dinner and enjoys a post dinner session with Mandolins the College band. Then comes time for the club activities which is a microcosm of corporate life but with all the fun one could ever want. Pitch for a project, manage people & timelines, hone skills at event management or indulge the creative side building lifelong memoirs! Then it’s time for bed. Catch a movie, read a book or walk across the road to enjoy a nice snack of Maggi before retiring to bed ready to wake up the next morning. MDI. Where you don’t just stretch time, you stretch yourself.

A day in the life of a Mandevian
Mandevians’ day is typically filled with new experiences and a host of varied interaction with the environment that helps them become change masters of tomorrow. The day starts early when they are woken up by the twittering of birds around the campus. One may choose to relax and stretch on the gentle greenery of the spacious lawns or exert oneself at a

Full Time Residential Post Graduate Programme In Management (PGPM)
In 1994, a phase when India was opening its economy to the world and experimenting to find its feet in the new order, MDI launched a Full Time Residential Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM). The initiative was to meet the increasing demand for young trained professional managers and thereby to contribute towards the national effort of making India globally competitive. Starting this programme was a natural extension as well as consolidation of the Institute’s twenty five years of excellence in post experience management education and training, research and consultancy. PGPM, a flagship programme of MDI, aims at grooming the future business leaders and organisation builders. Its objectives are manifold – to help students understand the business environment around them; to facilitate lateral thinking; to inculcate values of integrity, justice and fairness; and to develop a global mindset to meet the challenges of international competition. The programme has the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India and is recognized by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to an MBA
degree. The PGPM programme is also accredited by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) New Delhi. MDI is the first and only Indian B-School and second in Asia to be accredited by an international institution, Association of MBAs (AMBA, London). MDI also received the AMDISA-SAQS accreditation. Five areas of specialization, viz; Business Policy & Strategic Management, Finance, Information Management, Marketing and Operations Management are offered to students of the PGPM. Full Time Residential Post Graduate Programme In Human Resoures (PGP-HR)
In today’s age of continuous change, technology and material resources fail to provide the cutting edge. As such the only thing that is providing a sustainable competitive edge is the human resource. This critical juncture in the industry and emergence of a new knowledge economy has created a vital need for HR professionals in business organizations. To meet the need for HR professionals with a holistic business perspective, MDI in collaboration with National HRD Network launched the Post Graduate programme in Human Resource (PGP-HR) Management. The programme was an initiative to nurture and develop professionals with a global sensitivity and outlook. The programme intends to instill competencies and capabilities to lead change in a diverse and dynamic global industry. The programme has the approval of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Government of India.

Post Graduate Programme In International Management (PGP-IM)
In an increasingly shrinking globe, inter cultural working and globe trotting are imminent realities. Managers and future leaders require a global mindset that can appreciate different cultures, can build networks across boundaries, and can capitalize on differences. Taking cognizance of this emerging paradigm, MDI, Gurgaon in collaboration with ESCP-EAP France launched a unique first of its kind Post Graduate Programme in International Management (PGP-IM) in India in 2006. The unique dual degree programme is delivered partly in India (MDI) and partly in Europe (5 campuses of ESCP-EAP). The first part of the programme is delivered on MDI Campus, at Gurgaon. The second part of the programme will be delivered in Europe at the London/ Paris/ Torino campuses. The students will get class room learning opportunity and the rare chance to work in Europe or India on a paid internship basis. They will also have the opportunity to get placed in Europe. Needless to say, such a programme provides a rich opportunity for students to learn and work across cultures and thereby develop themselves as global managers. Thus, the PGP-IM programme at MDI aims to develop global leaders through crosscultural learning experiences. It adopts a general management perspective and at the same time provides adequate grounding in various management functions, thereby enabling the student to become a well-rounded manager. Through exposure to international management schools, this programme helps students to develop competencies to work across cultures and work in unfamiliar markets. Thus this programme is designed for not just preparing global managers but truly global leaders. Curriculum: The pedagogy involves providing the right amount of cross culture appreciation and exposure. Students will be joined by Europe students of ESCPEAP who will be with them not only on MDI campus but also when they shift back to Europe for the second part of the programme. The pedagogy includes both a theoretical perspective and a practical approach to management. Theoretical instruction involves giving the student an exposure to class-room lectures, exercises and simulations while the practical aspect focuses on direct experience and work exposure through the internship mode. The programme is spread over five modules. The first two modules spread over 8 1/2 months would be at MDI. The third module of 6 months duration would be at ESCP-EAP Campus. The fourth module will be four months of internship in Europe/India. The fifth module of 1 ½ months would consist of dissertation work in India / Europe. The first module focuses on providing basic inputs in qualitative and quantitative domains, analytical skills as well as improved communication ability. In the 2nd module the focus shifts to giving a general manager perspective to the students through exposure in multi functional domains. Applicants are required to appear for the COMMON ADMISSION TEST (CAT) conducted by IIMs. Based on CAT score, shortlisted candidates are called for Group Discussion followed by Interview during February to April at one of the various centres in India. IIMs have no role either in the selection process or in conducting the programme. CONTINUING EDUCATION
Experience and continuous innovation have made continuing education at MDI rich in content and relevant in changing scenarios. The response is evident from the AIMA survey that reveals that number of managers attending programmes at MDI are twice those at any other super league B-School of India.
Management Development Programmes
MDI is a pioneer and a market leader in executive education in India. The programmes are designed with careful planning and substantial research. These programmes help the executives to broaden their understanding and improve their skills to face challenges at higher positions. MDI conducts more than 50 Management Development Programmes every year. MDI has alliances with international business schools, industry and individual experts to offer joint programmes to address the diverse needs in executive education.
In-Company Programmes
The Institute conducts more than 100 specially designed executive development programmes every year for middle and senior level managers of different organizations. Such programmes involve extensive study of the client organization, preparation of specific teaching materials and cases towards the delivery of a customized course design to suit the needs of each organization. These programmes are of short as well as long duration and attempt to upgrade the skills of participants to help the organization develop a culture conducive to organizational excellence. MDI has training alliances with business organizations, such as SAIL, ABB Ltd; BEL; IPCL; LIC; NHPC; NTPC; ONGC; PGCIL; Canara Bank; Maruti Udyog Ltd; Hero Honda; RBI; Apollo Tyres, Dena Bank, PNB, Armed Forces, SAPIENT; Flextronics Software, BOB; IFFCO; DFID/World Bank etc.
Workshops On Leading Corporate Transformation – Performing At The Cutting Edge
MDI has taken a first-of-its-kind initiative in the area of continuing education by designing a series of workshops for executives at the levels of Executive Directors / Senior Vice-Presidents / Group General Managers of large corporations and financial institutions. The emergence of the global corporate village and rapid technological shifts has drastically altered the mode of transacting business. The challenge, therefore, for each organisation is to continuously develop its senior management to provide an incessant stream of talent to lead the organisation towards global excellence. People, who are in line for Boardlevel appointments, particularly need to develop an innate understanding of international trends not only with regard to environmental shifts in technology, trade, and talent, but also about the changing norms of accountability by which the Boards of organisations are being assessed.
This emerging need of the corporate sector is the prime focus of the MDI ‘s new initiative to develop a two-week workshop for the top level executives. Since a global mindset and global leadership is an integral part of Board-level competencies, a ten-day meticulously worked out international module has also been built into the design of the workshops. The second workshop was conducted during 29th May – 9th June, 2006 and drew 28 participants from large and strategic organisations covering the telecom sector, the steel manufacturing sector, the oil sector, the hydro-power and the thermal-power sectors, the banking and insurance sectors, the fertilizer and chemicals sector, the power equipment manufacturing sector, etc. This workshop was a joint endeavour of MDI and the Robert H. Smith School of Business, University of Maryland, USA. The participants spent 5 days on the campus of MDI and 6 days in North America where they engaged in intensive interaction with renowned faculty and business leaders. The workshop was highly successful and the participant feedback was very positive and enthusiastic.
Advanced Management Programme
The Advanced Management Programme (AMP) was launched in 1996 for top managements of the corporate world, industrialists, entrepreneurs and top level managers holding Board or just below the Board level positions with a view to broaden their understanding of the emerging national, regional and global business scenario; making them aware of competitive management strategies and transformational leadership traits. The AMP thus aims at providing a rare opportunity for top managers to reflect, introspect and examine their organizational vision and objectives necessary to redesign business strategies for organizational renewal towards globally competitive leadership in the new millennium.
Quality Improvement Programme
The Government of India initiated the Quality Improvement Programme in 1970 which is being implemented and monitored by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). AICTE has identified Management Development Institute, Gurgaon as one of the nodal centres for implementing QIP in management. As part of QIP opportunities are available to faculty members , of AICTE recognized business schools to upgrade their academic qualifications by registering for the Fellow Programme in Management at MDI.
