Getting greener UMass Boston researchers are making rapid advances in “green chemistry,” the effort to manufacture products with environmentally friendly processes and materials. CVIP is in discussions with two Fortune 100 companies to license renewable-energy technology and personal-care technology. Protecting first responders UMass Dartmouth textile engineers are working with the U.S. Army Soldier & Biological Chemical Command, Natick Soldier Center, to create garments that will protect soldiers and public safety officers from chemical and biological dangers. Achieving nationally recognized scientific breakthroughs UMass Medical School scientists are leaders in the important discovery of RNA interference, a novel gene-silencing technology that CVIP has licensed to more than two dozen companies. Improving public health The UMass Medical School’s Massachusetts Biologic Laboratories, an FDA-licensed facility, develops and manufactures human vaccines, plasma products, and monoclonal antibodies. In their unique role as a non-profit biologics manufacturer, MBL has developed important products that address critical health care concerns.
