ALS112 - 2003 Domaine Fernand Engel, Riesling Reserve, Alsace, France
Country: France - Varietal/Type: Riesling - Price: $14.99
Tasting Notes: Nestled in the village of Rorschwihr, Alsace, the Engel family has been in the winemaking business for three
generations. Their Riesling wines are unmistakably Alsatian in character and noted for their agreeably fruity aromatic expression. The
2003 Riesling Reserve is pale gold in color with hints of silver revealing a delicious bouquet of wonderful floral fragrances enhanced by
crisp minerals. These scents are repeated on the palate where they are embraced by lively citrus flavors ending in a long finish. This
wine won a silver (highly recommended) at the 2006 World Wine Championships. ALS112

Tasting Notes: This sparkling wine is made by Cave-Hunawihr and is named for Pope Calixte II who served from 1118-1124. The first
written mention of Hunawihr, Alsace, dates back to 1123 and is signed by Calixte II. Luminous yellow with silvery hints that reflect
gracious bubbles, this is a fresh and long lasting cremant with rich, floral aromas and a warm note of brioche. It is full and fleshy with a
cheerful vitality sustained by a persistent stream of sprightly bubbles. What makes this wine unique is the addition of Pinot Blanc (30%)
and Auxerrois (20%) to the Chardonnay base (50%), adding elegant and flowery aromas. Cremant d’Alsace is perfect as an apertif and
as a reception or party wine. Drink now or keep until 2007.

Serving Suggestion:
The cattle industry is a mainstay of Argentina’s culture and economy. Therefore, it is fitting to drink the signature wine from this country
