[...] learning is not an additive affair in which concepts are laid down one by one; rather it is a developmental process, characterized by complex and synergistic advances in which interactions between the learner and the environment enable intellectual restructuring and transformation as they relate to the growth and development of the individual. Because psychological theory is linked to educational practice, it is expected that the curriculum will provide opportunities for the learner to integrate knowledge, resulting in the enhancement of the total learning experience.
