Secondhand Smoke
Secondhand smoke, also known as
Environmental Tobacco Smoke (ETS), is the 3rd leading cause of premature death in the United States. As a result, it is estimated that secondhand smoke accounts for as many as 62,000 deaths every year. Secondhand smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, 60 of which have been shown to cause cancer. Breathing in this secondhand smoke can cause lung cancer in nonsmokers and is a serious health risk to children. This list of smoke-free restaurants has been provided to help reduce exposure to secondhand smoke. It is our hope that as awareness of the dangers of ETS, or secondhand smoke is increased, that the current list of smoke-free restaurants will continue to grow. Henderson County Department of Public Health would like to commend these smoke-free restaurants for helping provide a healthy environment to all patrons and citizens.
