HBO has made The Uncivil Servant, a movie that attempts to chronicle those ninety or so days in the fall of 2000. Full disclosure requires that Grimaldi divulge that he has a nonspeaking part as an extra in the movie, and he appears for a nanosecond without impact on the content or cinematography of the movie. What one learns from the movie is that all elections are as sloppy. But since most elections are decided by much greater margins, you never know it. In many jurisdictions, absentee ballots are not counted unless they could affect the outcome.
