"We advise the 90% rule," says Todd Roorda, envi- ronmental solutions specialist for Vermeer. "If 90% of the material you'll be chipping is 12 inches or smaller, a 12-inch chipper is a good choice. But you also have to consider some forking material, which even the tree trimming contractor will inevitably have from time to time. If you have two 7-inch branches, for example, that's 14 inches. Just do the math and figure out the capacity you'll need."
