Technology and automation always raise questions of cost and return on investment. But in a service environment, maintaining that personal touch is also a factor. With those issues in mind, cash dispensers/recyclers were a recent topic of discussion on CUES Net, a members-only listserve. Nancy Deavours, president/CEO of Merced School Employees Federal Credit Union, said that cash dispensers speed up transactions, eliminate the need for the tellers operating out of the cash dispatch to keep cash in a cash drawer, so this consequently speeds up their balancing time. In addition, Bill Burke, president of Day Air Credit Union, said that they designed their two newest branches around cash dispenser teller pods in an effort to help their ongoing culture change to be more relationship-rather than transaction-centric.
