Stora Enso has announced plans to reduce its paper and board capacity across Europe to the tune of 600,000 tonnes. It will also cut some 1,700 staff positions, subject to consultation with labor representatives. The firm plans to shut down its 190,000 tonne/yr folding boxboard BM 3 at its Baienfurt mill in Germany by the end of the year. Stora Enso's LPB activities will also see the closure of two polymer coating machines, one at Imatra and the other in Karhula, also in Finland.
