Consider the following: * Some 77 million baby boomers are in the pipeline for retirement-some are already there and others are a mere three years away from receiving Medicare. * Some 10,000 people a day over the next two decades will become eligible for Social Security. * We are accumulating $2 trillion-plus a year in future liabilities. * Our current unfunded liabilities-entitlements-for Medicare and Social Security alone are more than $40 trillion, three times greater than our entire U.S. economy (which is about $ 13 trillion per year). * The need for the federal government to borrow, or try to borrow, money will increase dramatically.
