Valley Health System is striving to do its part for energy conservation. From a financial perspective, this is not only good stewardship of their natural resources, but also good business practice. Perhaps among the most significant of late has been their effort around reprocessing of single-use devices by the clinical groups. The result has been greatly reduced supply costs, as well as reduced medical wastes headed to their land fills each year. Some of their administrative services destined to move home still occupied premium clinical space within hospital walls, resulting in less than optimal use of high-dollar square footage. As a regional healthcare provider with a workforce that commutes from several states and as much as 60 miles away, its efforts to "green up" are paying off, both financially and environmentally.
