Celebrating 125 years
of excellence in Oxford
The 125th Anniversary Annual Fund
Mansfield is one of the youngest and smallest of the University’s 39 colleges; we are
renowned for successfully combining the best of traditional Oxford with our own unique
and innovative personality. We have an informal approach and are dedicated to access for
the most able students, irrespective of background.
As we look towards our 125th anniversary we are determined to continue to provide the
best for our students from our ambitious new Annual Fund, which is intended to provide
Mansfield with the resources that we need now, as our endowment continues to grow in
As the bedrock of our 125th Anniversary Fund, we are aiming to recruit 125 Mansfield
Patrons willing to pledge £125 per month for 48 months.
Please take a look at what we hope to achieve, with your help,
between now and 2011 and consider becoming a Patron.
Each Patron will make a real difference
“Our overriding objective for this
125th Anniversary Annual Fund
is to safeguard and enhance all aspects
of the student experience
at Mansfield College”.

The 125 Club – How can you help?
Safeguarding the tutorial system
Our greatest priority is to ensure that our students receive the best possible education,
which means being able to attract and retain academic staff of the highest calibre.
The best way to do this is to build up our Fellowships endowment fund, so that we can
safeguard the future of each of our tutorial posts. Fellowship endowments currently
attract matching pound-for-pound grants from the College Contributions Fund, which
supports the less well-off colleges.
With matching funding, 50 Patrons paying £125
per month would make a major contribution
towards endowing a Fellowship in the Sciences
in just one year or an Arts Fellowship
in two and a half years.
Mansfield’s student provision needs to be able to match the best. This means increasing
bursary support, hardship funds, scholarships, travel grants, IT equipment, library books
and support for sporting, musical and other extra-curricular aspects of Oxford life.
An additional £50,000 per annum would make this a reality.
It would take only 25 Patrons paying £125
per month to achieve this yearly target
Our estate (including student rooms) needs to be maintained at a much higher level than
we can currently afford. Our shortfall here is more than £100,000 per annum.
Within 12 months, 50 Patrons paying £125 per month
would begin to transform the College estate
