The same three key threads that permeated this conference (social media/Web 2.0 tools, learning methodologies, and sharing knowledge) were emphasized by the Knowledge Management (KM) Section in its preconference meeting on August 8 at Laval University. The meeting, titled Knowledge Sharing Strategies & Initiatives, featured an interactive discussion with Dave Pollard, VP of knowledge development at the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. David Gurteen, who compared old KM practices and KM 2.0 that uses today's social tools, talked about his use of tools: the 6,000 pages on his Web site, newsletters, RSS, email feeds, media player, and more. Gurteen shared ideas for libraries, such as embedding a Google map on your contact page, inspirational quotes, and a Twitter feed about what's happening.
