How does one get to this point? It's an ongoing, never-ending process. For starters, do what you say you'll do. If you have an appointment for Monday at 9 a.m., don't arrive at 9 a.m. Arrive at 8:50. Similarly, do not make promises you cannot keep. If the client needs the job done by Monday and you know your shop is too busy to meet that deadline, take a pass but ask to be kept in mind for future jobs.
