openings / exhibits / events / auctions ARIZONA Cowboy Artists of America Show The Phoenix Art Museum hosts one of the most anticipated western art shows of the year PHOENIX * Many of the best western artists in the land wrangle up their latest works for the 43rd annual Cowboy Artists of America Sale &C Exhibition, which opens at the Phoenix Art Museum October 17-18. An open house and preview takes place on Thursday, October 16, from 7 to 9 p.m., with the sale-by draw and silent bid-slated for Saturday, October 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. Trailside Galleries (480.945.7751, www.trailsidegalleries.com) holds its Fall Open House October 13-25, with a reception on Saturday, October 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. Part of the festivities include a retrospective and sale of works by the late Joe Beeler, one of the founding members of CAA; the body of work includes drawings, paintings, and sculptures that Beeler kept for his own personal collection. The tour takes visitors through the village of Abiquiu, famous as the home of painter Georgia O'Keeffe, and into the surrounding Chama River Valley, all located just an hour north of Santa Fe amidst stunning mountains, rock formations, rivers, and fall foliage.
