In the author's experience coaching agents and insurance executives, creating positive, lasting change is one of the top three areas people want to work on. Understanding and managing change is critical, whether you want to make a personal or organizational change, help an employee change, or overcome a potential client's reluctance to change insurance brokers. Years of life experience shape their beliefs and behaviors. They develop default tendencies that direct how they tend to perceive and react to certain situations, circumstances and the environment around them. Unless you work on it, brain fitness begins to decline around age 30 for men and a little later for women. The key is keeping up with the brain's ability to learn; when you stop learning and using the machinery, it starts dying. Think of change as a constant state of learning -- what you do to remain successful and become more successful -- not as what you'll have to do when your success runs out.
