The New York Times acknowledges that this "extraordinary federal intervention in private enterprise ... could become one of the most expensive financial bailouts in American history," but assures worried readers that "it will not involve any immediate taxpayer loans or investments." Yet sooner or later we will have to pay, if not directly through loans then indirectly through the Federal Reserve's printing presses.
