Marlin Thomas, dean of the Graduate School of Engineering and Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology, has witnessed vast changes to the profession he's been affiliated with since the 1960s. Thomas welcomes industrial engineering's modern image of greater customer and human focus, yet he's relieved that its fundamental philosophy of finding that most effective and efficient way has never changed. At the IIE Annual Conference and Expo in May, Thomas was presented the Frank and Lillian Gilbreth Award, IIE's highest and most esteemed honor. The award recognizes those who have distinguished themselves through contributions to the welfare of humankind in the field of industrial engineering.
