ARIZONA Explorations in Black and White Tony Abeyta at the Heard Museum PHOENIX * Widely known for his vivid paintings of Native imagery, Navajo artist Tony Abeyta tries something different by creating works in black and white. The exhibit explores themes of creation through primal imagery of botanical and animal forms and includes a 20-by-18-foot mural Abeyta painted on-site. The event kicks off with a reception and awards dinner on Saturday, September 20, and an open house the following day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This year's judge is Mark Smith, cofounder of Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art in San Antonio.
