Overview

This document provides instructions for installation and basic configuration of the Citrix
Metaframe Client on an Apple Macintosh computer.

Audience

End users who need to access the WESPaC product from a Macintosh

Client Install via NFuse

     1. Launch Internet Explorer and navigate to your district NFuse login page. Each
district will have an address in the form of http://portal.<district name>.wa-
k12.net. See your local admin or ASP Coordinator for the proper URL.

     2. In the lower right corner of the NFuse Login page, under the ‘Citrix NFuse
Message Center’, you will see a link to install the ‘Citrix ICA Client for
                Macintosh’. Click on this link.

Note: This link is always present for Macintosh clients, but need only be
followed once. There’s no need to reinstall the Citrix client once you have it
                installed properly.

Clicking the client install link will download a compressed Citrix ICA Client
installer and place it on your desktop as shown:

     3. Double click the icon to unstuff the client software. You’ll see the
                following dialog:

     4. Click on ‘Continue’.

     5. Click on ‘Save’.

     6. The ‘UnStuff’ process begins . . .

     7. When the ‘UnStuff’ is completed, click on ‘Quit’.

     8. You should now have a folder (‘Citrix ICA Client’) on your desktop that
looks like the screenshot above. Double click the ‘Citrix ICA Client’ folder to
open it. Inside the folder will be the ‘Installer’.

     9. Double click the ‘Installer’ icon to start the installation. You’ll see…

     10. Click on ‘Continue’. The Citrix Client Software License Agreement screen
                will appear:

     11. Click on ‘Yes’. Then you’ll see:

     12. Ensure that ‘Easy Install’ is selected as the install type and then click the
‘Install’ button. The following screen will display:

     13. When the installation is complete, the installer will tell you. Click ‘‘Quit’’.

On newer Macs this will complete the installation and you will be ready to restart your
browser and log in to Nfuse.

On older Macs you may have to set the server location for the client to work. If you are
unable to get the client to work up to this point, go on to the next step.

Server Location Setup

In the Macintosh Hard Drive, open the ‘Citrix ICA Client’ folder, find the ‘Citrix ICA
Client Editor’ and double click that application to start it.

Click on ‘Published Applications’ then go to the pair of arrows to the right of ‘Network
Connection’ and click on it to open the drop down box.

From the drop down box choose ‘Server Location.’

In the box labeled ‘Server,’ uncheck ‘use default’ and insert the IP address provided by
your system administrator or ASP Coordinator.

Return to the very top section and click the drop-down arrows. Choose ‘Network
Connection’ again. The area directly below that is now labeled ‘Server’. Check to make
sure that ‘Published Application’ is picked; if not, click on it. Next, from the drop down
list choose the correct desktop for your school district so that it placed in the server box.

Once you have your district desktop application in the Server box, click ‘Save’

Save using the default name in the Citrix folder.

MIME Settings

If the client still does not work you should check the File Helper (MIME) settings. The
correct settings are added during the install of the new client but it is a good
troubleshooting step to make sure they are set and to adjust them if needed.

     1. Launch Internet Explorer. In the ‘Edit’ drop down menu, select ‘Preferences’.
The following ‘Internet Explorer Preferences’ screen displays:

     2. Under ‘Receiving Files’, click on ‘File Helpers’.

     3. Click on ‘Description’ (under ‘File Helper Settings’) to sort the list by
description. Scroll through the list for ‘application/x-ica’. Click on this item.

     4. Click the ‘Change’ button. The ‘Edit File Helper’ dialog displays.

     5. Look under ‘Download Destination’ to ensure that the ‘Download to’ option
                selected is ‘Temporary Items Folder’.

     6. Click ‘OK’.

     7. Under ‘Receiving Files’, click on ‘Download Options’ and ensure that the
‘Download Destination’ option selected is: ‘Always use download location
                from appropriate file helpers.’

     8. Click ‘OK’.

Adjusting Screen Settings on the Mac

After logging into Citrix and Skyward, you may see the need to adjust the screen settings
in order to view the full Skyward screen. Here’s how you do it:

     1. Log out of Skyward and your current Citrix session.

     2. Next, open the ‘Citrix ICA Client Editor’ in the ‘Citrix ICA Client’ folder on
                the hard drive.

     3. Click the drop down menu ‘Options’ and then select ‘Default Settings’.

     4. In the ‘Window Size’ box, set the ‘Fixed’ parameters to 800 x 600.

     5. Click ‘Save’, then click ‘Quit’.

     6. Log back into Citrix and Skyward.

Installation is complete.

Final Troubleshooting Notes

If the client fails to work, check that Virtual Memory is enabled.

Occasionally Mac clients do not work due to failed installs or conflicts with other
applications running on the machine. In this case uninstall all Citrix related applications
to the trash can. Empty the Trash and do a fresh Citrix client download and installation.

You can also try installing the latest ICA Mac client directly from www.citrix.com.
