                                          Applicants with Criminal Records
    1. Subject to 2 below an applicant for admission to the University who at the time of application has been convicted of a
criminal offence and who has not been rehabilitated under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Order (NI) 1978,
or against whom criminal procedures are pending, must declare this fact at the time of application.
    2. Under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order (NI) 1979 as amended by the Rehabilitation of
Offenders (Exceptions) (Amendments) Order (NI) 1987 spent convictions may be a reason for refusing a person em-
ployment in certain classes of employment. (Details of excepted professions, offices, employments and occupations are
given in the Schedules to the 1979 Order.) For this reason applicants for admission to certain courses including those
which involve work with children or other vulnerable groups are required to disclose convictions that are spent. Further-
more, before confirming the enrolment of students on such courses, the University is required to arrange for a check to
be carried out to ensure that there is no relevant information about the student’s background which could have a bearing
on their ability to complete placement or practical training requirements associated with their course.
    3. An applicant who is convicted after applying, and before the date of admission to the University, or a student who is
convicted after admission to the University, must inform the University without delay.
    4. When disclosing a conviction, an applicant should give the University written permission to request a police check or
seek information from any other appropriate body or person. Failure to do so may prevent further consideration of the
application for admission or lead to the student being unable to complete the requirements of his or her course.
    5. If the University discovers that an applicant has failed to disclose information about convictions as outlined above it may
withdraw or amend any offer(s) of admission or terminate the applicant’s enrolment at the University.
    6. In the case of any applicant or student convicted of a criminal offence or given a custodial sentence whether suspended
or not, the University may, subject to 4 above, seek further information including a character reference from any indi-
vidual or body which the University considers appropriate. Admission may be refused on the basis of the reference so
       obtained.

                                                Consent and Declaration
An applicant for admission to the University who at the time of application has been convicted of a criminal offence and who
has not been rehabilitated under the terms of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Order (NI) 1978, or against whom criminal
proceedings are pending, must declare this fact at the time of application.

information as you can, including, if possible, the offence, the approximate date of the court hearing and the court which
dealt with the matter. Please continue on a separate sheet if necessary.

I understand that a Pre-Employment Consultancy Service check may be required before enrolment on certain programmes
of study can be confirmed and that if I am provisionally enrolled by the University pending the check such enrolment may
become null and void should the University decide as a consequence of the check that I am unsuitable for the course.
