SUMP PUMPS CONNECTED TO THE SANITARY SEWER ARE
                   ILLEGAL.
Ordinance 101 of the Lake Pewaukee Sanitary District, as well as State Plumbing Codes
make it illegal to connect a sump pump to the sanitary sewer. The fine for an illegal
connection is up to $200 per day from the time of connection.

Illegal connections are identified by the sound of the water dumping into the mainline or, to
pinpoint the exact location, by watching the discharge on our pipe camera. Any investigative
time, inspector time and camera rental charges will be charged to the homeowner with the
illegal connection.

These types of connections require the District to pay for treatment and transportation costs of
clean ground water. A sump pump that discharges at an average rate of one gallon a minute
puts the equivalent of seven homes worth of flow in the sewer in one day. Since the pump
owner only pays for one unit, all District residents pay for their illegal activity.

If you have a sump pump connected to the sewer, disconnect it now. If you are unsure
about a connection we will be happy to inspect it for you. For information on sump pumps or
any other sewer related issues, please call our office at (262) 691-4485
