As you read this we are already in February and will soon gather together to celebrate the end of an incredible 2007 year. During 2007 you, the OHIO JAYCEES, accomplished something we have not done in ten years, we grew! Our goal is to have at least 50% of Ohio's Jaycee chapters submit for initial Blue Chip by January 25th. Has your chapter met that goal already? If not, are you still trying? You CAN do it!! There are just a few days left and I hope that ALL of your chapters have taken the time to sit and create a chapter plan with your board. It's not only important in helping to maintain a well rounded, healthy chapter but it helps you as individuals to focus on your goals as officers and members - and realize what action it will take to achieve your goals. I want each of your chapters to be successful! Even if you aren't able to meet this deadline, please still make the time to meet with your board. Let me know if I can be of assistance to you throughout the year. I am willing to travel and look forward to speaking with each of you. As a state officer I love to travel and look forward to being invited to your chapter meetings and/or projects. I want to send out a big THANK YOU to the Lancaster and Norwalk Jaycees for inviting me to visit this month. I encourage all members to attend the FEBRUARY YEAR END in Dayton to celebrate the year end of 2007 and the beginning of 2008. In Jaycees Ruby A. Weymouth AVP Ohio 2008 Region Directors Page 2 OHIO JAYCEES MICHELLE TOMER, MDVP Greetings, Everyone!! By now, I’m sure that everyone’s initial Blue Chip submission has been turned in to Tina Macko, & sent to Nationals, RIGHT!! Alright, maybe not everyone’s. I would like to congratulate those chapters that did submit their paperwork by January 25, 2008. For those of you who haven’t finished your paperwork, it’s not too late!! Although it won’t qualify for Blue Chip, you can still get your Chapter Plan finished, to start off on the right foot in 2008! These plans should be reviewed and revised quarterly (don’t worry, I’ll remind you) to keep on the right path throughout the year. Speaking of path….my theme for 2008 is “Following the Path….Taking the Lead”. There are so many “paths“ that have been laid out to help you succeed, whether it’s the Blue Chip program, Chairman’s Planning Guides, or any other resource you may utilize. However, don’t get so tied up in these tools that you see them as limiting your creativity instead of enhancing it. This is one of the reasons I’ ve created the “Trailblazer” Award for 2008. This award will be presented quarterly to the person AND the chapter that goes above and beyond to “Take the Lead” within the Jaycee organization. Whether it is a chapter that creates new and innovative programming, or an individual who steps out of their comfort zone to try something different, there are many reasons for which this award would be given! Get creative!! Before I sign off, I would like to thank Carrie Montgomery, the CPG Program Manager, and Tina Macko, the Blue Chip Program Manager, for training at LOTS, and all of the hard work they have put in so far. As always, if you ever need any assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me! My team and I are looking forward to working with all of you this year!! Michele Tomer 2008 Management Development Vice President LEADERSHIP ACADEMY CONGRATULATIONS to our 2008 Leadership Academy attendees: David Grate, Kevin Combs, Tom Blower, Heather Austin, Bethany Grate, Bill Callison, and Dennis Coy. They will be sharing some of the wonderful training they received with us throughout the year. Look for their trainings to be listed in All State Flyers and other regional trainings throughout 2008. They were chosen to be seven of only 200 members to Congratulations again. We are so PROUD of you! attend from the U.S. DUES KITS TIDBIT! Many chapters have contacted the state officers to let us know that your chapters have not received your chapter rosters from Nationals. With the changing of the boards we wanted to make you all aware that the Chapter roster comes from Nationals in a large, white envelope with the "JAYS" logo on the front. I, myself, have thrown this envelope aside thinking, "I didn't request information on JAYS." Please check those "JAYS' envelopes, they come with VERY IMPORTANT INFO inside from Nationals. Volume 1, Issue 2 Page 3 HELLO FROM REGION 2!!! I would like to thank the members of the state who took time out from their families, and time off from work to attend 2008 Leadership Academy. I must say that we (Ohio) were very well represented there in Tulsa. There were 3 of us from Region 2! Along with myself, Bill Callison from Riverside, and Tom Blower from Greater Cincinnati. From other areas of Ohio were: Dennis Coy from North Canton, Kevin Combs form Lancaster, and Bethany and Dave Grate from Hilliard. We learned a lot of great information that we will be bringing back to our chapters, regions, and state. We had an outstanding time meeting with other people and other chapters from across the nation. It was an unbelievable time. I cannot express my thanks enough to President Sherry and USJC President Denise for allowing us this opportunity. But of course we learned about each other too…..of course this will happen when you wait 2 hours for a shuttle bus back to the hotel. Our NVP Dawn learned lots about us too. ?????Bill can eat a lot of food (Dennis has ? pictures to prove this) ?????We all need protein (not just salad and ? potatoes) ?????Kevin really does not like to fly ? ?? ???Bethany is not allowed to make reservations any more! ?? ???Dennis use to be into narcotics (just ask him) ?? ???We found Tom – after 2 days of looking for him ? ?? ???Dave really should have said “No, President Denise you can not sit here, my wife is.” ?? ???We LOVE chicken from Ruby Tuesday’s! ?? ???Belly Dancers should always go to the tanning bed before a performance – even in Tulsa. ?? ???You have to play Poker for something….. ?? ???We LOVE pizza at 12:00 am! ?? ???USJC Chief of Staff Cindy Sabourin and Heather are sisters from “other” mothers Now I would like to say THANK YOU to REGION 2 for inviting me in to various projects and meetings. I can say I laughed so hard at Riverside’s Comedy Appreciation Night that the next day, my sides hurt. Also, thank you to everyone who got their initial Blue Chip submissions in on time (there will be something special for you at Region Caucus in February). Thanks, Heather ??? CHAPTER OFFICER’S TRAINING As part of the Blue Chip Parade this year, Chapter Officer's Training is required to be held by "the end of February". So, please plan to meet with your chapter officers by 2/28/08 to receive those points. IF your chapter members attended the Ohio Jaycees LOTS held on January 5th, congratulations, you've already met that goal! If you plan to hold the training this month, please either mail me a sign in sheet from that class or email when it was held, who attended & what was covered in the class. Good Luck! If you need any assistance, please call on me (tinamacko@hotmail.com) or any one of your state officers! Tina Macko, Blue Chip PM NATIONAL PRIMARY REPORT: Hello Ohio Jaycees It is hard to believe that we are ready to begin the second month of our 2008 year.
