Art Pop 2009 - CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS! Deadline: 26th of February, 2009, at midnight As the Visual Arts component of Pop Montreal, Art Pop’s purpose is to showcase fun and exciting artists that resonate with the innovative energy of the music festival at large. We program artists and art collectives both emerging and established, from Montreal and beyond, to work within and around pre-established structures of the Pop festival to create a sense of exchange between aesthetics, community and music. Art Pop 2008 was concerned primarily with exploring the ways in which new interactive technologies and alternative spaces can come together to produce a more integrated visual arts component to the festival. This year, with a desire for more experimentation and border-crossing, Art Pop is looking for artists willing to make the visual arts segment more accessible to the general music going crowd, as well as strengthening ties with art spaces, centres and loose artistic communities here in Montreal. The focus for Art Pop 2009 will be on immersive practices, i.e. projects and ideas that fully integrate a sense of immersion and experiential modes of expression. We’re less interested in the media you work in and more interested in how you locate your project and practice within the realms of immersive, encompassing situations. We are searching for artists willing to stretch themselves beyond the bounds of how they normally work to potentially collaborate with other artists and the public in the construction and dissemination of their work, as well as artists who are interested in collaborations with musicians. A good question to keep in mind in presenting your submission is: If you had a room or a space either alone or with a group of artists, what immersive project(s) would you execute? We are also extremely partial to anything that involves crystals. Artists can apply as individuals, collectives, or with musicians. Please include the following with your application:  A project description of no more than ONE page long  Expected budgetary & technical needs  Visual and/or audio support material: Visual documentation (if applicable) – 10 to 20 digital photos (good quality JPEG) Video documentation (if applicable) - DVD or streaming only (10 minutes max). Soundtrack (if applicable) - CD or mp3 (10 minutes max). Interactive digital or web-based project (if applicable) – CD or DVD  A list describing all your support material and visual documentation including title, media, dimensions of work and year of production.  A curriculum vitae with proper contact info  A SASE if you wish for the return of your support material Results will be mailed or e-mailed up to 2 months after the submission deadline.
