Sharrel Wyatt EDTE 232 Chia-Jung Chung Internet/Video/Digital Camera Lesson –Final Draft VITAL IMFORMATION SUBJECT: English GRADE LEVEL: 12th grade English Literature UNIT OF STUDY: Global Warming – Fact of Cyclical Change? OBJECTIVES: Students will research videos and pictures on the internet with the goal of viewing videos and/or pictures relating to the issue of global warming. Students will select videos and/or pictures that support their position on the issue of global warming. Students will learn to edit digital photographs and videos. Students will learn download the film and pictures to the computer, edit the film and digital pictures and share them with other English and social studies classes with an invitation to come and watch the presentations students will be preparing on the issue of global warming. Students will learn to edit film and pictures and put them together in an attractive brochure to lure other classes to see what they have accomplished SUMMARY: Students have been studying world history in their social studies and climate in their science class In this lesson, the class will research web sites for visual images or videos relating to global warming The class members will edit pictures and videos and prepare presentations and invitations to share with other English and social studies and science classes. ACADEMIC STANDARDS: 3.0 Students read and respond to historically and culturally significant works of literature that reflect and enhance their studies of history and social studies. They conduct in-depth analyses of recurrent themes. 3.1 Analyze characteristics of subgenres (e.g. satires, parody, allegory, pastoral) that are used in poetry, prose, plays, novels, short stories, essay, and other basic genres. 3.2 Analyze the way in which the theme or meaning of a selection represents a view or comment on life, using textual evidence to support the claim. 3.3 Analyze the ways in which irony, tone, mood, the author’s style and the “sound” of the language achieve specific rhetorical or aesthetic purposes or both. 3.4 Analyze ways in which poets use imagery, personification, figures of speech and sounds to evoke the readers’ emotions. IMPLEMENTATION AND PROCEDURES: 1. Under google, students will type in “an inconvenient truth”, Michael Crichton and global warming to search for videos and pictures to download and edit. 2. Students will download pictures and learn to: edit color, turn and crop. 3. Students will select videos and learn to: capture, save, create a story board and edit. 4. Students will prepare a picture and videos program for presentation to other classes as part of an invitation for them to attend presentations. DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTTION: Early finishers may do additional research, editing and presentation preparation. LD and ELL learners will be given less complex assignments and assigned a buddy to help them. If this proves difficult, they may do drawings which as representative of the issues. LD and ELL will also be asked to select the pictures and videos we will share with other classes after they have been edited setting forth why the pictures they select are their favorites. TIME ALLOTMENT: This is a one week project: 1. Students will learn to locate MyPhotoCenter and learn to use its tools. 2. Students will learn to locate Windows Movies Maker, create a story board and edit. 3. Show students how to download pictures camera and how to download videos from cam corder. MATERIALS AND RESOURCES; A digital camera and a video camera, computers with a DV terminal that is IEEE 1394 or a FireWire card to edit videos and MyPhotoCenter to edit digital pictures. ASSESSMENTS: Work with the internet and with the digital camera and mini cam is designed to be a collaborative effort. The assessment in each area includes 10 points for how well as each student work as a team member and 10 points for successfully completing the assignment. Extra credit points are available in each area for individual students who do an outstanding job in either category Category Internet Research Collaborative Effort Maintained a list of sites visited?
