The Ministry of New Beginnings, part of the Phoenix Group, is a 32 year old Catholic oriented,
non-denominational social support organization for the separated, divorced, widowed and single persons.
Meetings are held every Monday (except holidays) at 7:30 p.m. in the Hughes Center in front of St.
Matthews Church 1001 E. Schaumburg Road in Schaumburg. Donation is $3 per meeting. Your first
visit is free!

Monday, September 1 - 11 a.m.
New Beginnings Annual Labor Day Picnic at Tyler Creek Forest Preserve on Route 31, south of I-90 in
Elgin. New Beginnings will provide the hot dogs, hamburgers, brats, buns, and condiments. Please bring
a dish to share (for 8 people) along with your own beverage. No charge if you bring a dish, $5 if you do
not bring a dish. Enjoy games, prizes and raffles. EVERYONE IS INVITED! RAIN OR SHINE IN
THE PAVILLION.

The Artist Way: A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity. Join us this fall as we work through the book the
Artist Way by Julia Cameron. This book is a 12-week course designed in discovering and recovering
your creative self. Books can be purchased at most bookstores or on Amazon.com. We will meet at a

Sandy will run her Annual Miniature Golf Tournament! Take the challenge: the guys against the girls!
Prizes for the winning team. Meet at Mountain View Miniature Golf, 510 E. Algonquin Road, Des
Plaines. $7 per person. Afterwards, ice cream at Artemis Restaurant, 912 Busse Road (Golf and Busse

Saturday, September 6 - 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Courtyard Wine and Cheese Party at Holy Family Church! Okay we are trying again… this time we hope
the weather will let us be in the courtyard and this time we promise to remember the cheese! We had rain
in June and had to have the party indoors, but it was a great time! This is a wonderful opportunity for
new folks to come on by, and for all of us to just relax a bit, socialize with new and old friends, and enjoy
the evening in the church courtyard. Join us anytime after 6 p.m. at Holy Family Church, Palatine Road,
Inverness. If it is raining… look for signs to direct you at the church to our indoor location. $5 at the

After the wine and cheese, head over to Dover Straits 1149 W. Golf Road, Hoffman Estates. Cindi
Cronin, will be performing with the band, Eustashia. We have heard them before and they are great. Stop
by and join in the fun, hear great music and do a little dancing, no cover charge. Keri will be hosting this

Morton Arboretum and White Fence Farm. Meet at St. Hubert’s parking lot. Gate admission at Morton
Arboretum is $8. One-hour tram tour is $6. Then we are off to the famous White Fence Farm for fried

Saturday, September 13 - 3 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Casino Night to raise money for mentally challenged individuals. Free admission. Drop in anytime
between 3 p.m. and 1 a.m. at The Getz Building, 746 South Vermont Street, Palatine (between Plum
Grove and Hicks Roads, off of Illinois Blvd). There will be gambling (blackjack, poker, roulette, craps)
plus food and raffles. Split the pot jackpots all night. Look for the volunteers who are New Beginnings
members - Fran, Cathy, Marianne, Sandy, LaVerne, and Paul!
Sunday, September 14 - 10:30 a.m.
“Sunday in the Park.” Meet at St. Hubert’s parking lot. We will drive to the Ravenswood CTA station
parking lot at Lawrence and Kimball and then take the “el” downtown. From there it is one block to the

Monday, September 15 - 7:30 p.m.
Dr. Tom Havard, is a parish counselor at St. John the Evangelist Church. The title of his topic for the
evening will be "Relationship Pitfalls to Avoid." He will give his perspective on this interesting topic.
Cake and coffee with be served after his presentation.
Tuesday, September 16 - 6:30 p.m.
Dinner at Andrew’s Open Pit, 2610 W. Dempster, Park Ridge, across from Maine East High school. Low

p.m. or meet Dan at the Kohl’s parking lot at the corner of Golf and Milwaukee Avenues, Niles at 6 p.m.

Bingo at the Getz Building, 746 South Vermont Street, Palatine (between Plum Grove and Hicks Roads,
off of Illinois Blvd). Early bird game at 6:45 p.m. with $250 jackpot. Regular Bingo at 7 p.m. with total
minimum payout of $4,000, plus possible other bonuses, Current jackpot is $18,000 and goes up $100 per

with your friends. The candidates will also present their goals and objectives for New Beginnings. We

“Beehive – the 60s Musical”, a play at Prairie Lakes Theater, 515 E. Thacker Street, Des Plaines. Cost is
$20 for adults, $17 for seniors. If we get more than 15 people, the cost is $17 for adults and $15 for
seniors. Dena said that this is a community theater and this play should be as good as the “Jersey Boys!”

Do not forget about the annual Hayride, which will be on Saturday, October 11, 2008. Tickets are $10
per person and are available now. Please see Joe Pizzo for additional information and to get your ticket.

If you would like the New Beginnings calendars mailed to you, please send a check made out to New
Beginnings in the amount of $6 to Joan Neville, 212 Stillwater Ct. Palatine, IL 60067.
You will receive a monthly calendar for the next 12 months. We currently mail the calendar to over 60
people. If you would like the New Beginnings calendar e-mailed to you, please e-mail
newbeginningscal@aol.com (Then we will have your correct e-mail address.) The monthly calendar will
be e-mailed to you at no charge. We currently e-mail to over 325 people. We also fax the calendar to
about 50 libraries, churches, singles groups, etc.
Advertisements
Arthur is collecting pop-top can tabs for the Boy Scouts. Alice is collecting Box Tops for Education, for
local schools. Please bring them to the Monday night meetings.
Margie is collecting left over yarn and yarn scraps. She makes shawls for cancer patients. Please bring
the yarn to the Monday night meetings.
