Georgia Community Action Association*
(go to the website and select “contact us” and then select the member agency location near where you live)
Provides affordable day care for children of low-income families and individuals who are working, in school, or
enrolled in job training programs.
Targeted toward families facing crisis situations, case management activities work to meet immediate needs and
focus on long term solutions to prevent further crisis. CAAs also stand ready to respond in times of disaster such as
tornados, hurricanes, and floods.
Strong and healthy families are the key to strong and healthy communities. Community programs are developed in
collaboration with local social service providers, potential consumers, private sector and civic organizations, and local
Georgia Community Action Agencies sponsored many of the first Head Start programs more than 40 years ago.
Today, CAAs enroll more than two-thirds of the children in Georgia's Head Start Programs.
Coordinated agency transportation networks make it possible to transport participants to a variety of programs
throughout the day.
Temporary Emergency Food Assistance Program: The "commodities" program. CAAs provide eligibility determination,
storage, and distribution of USDA surplus commodities.
Food Pantries: In many counties CAAs operate food pantries, in others, CAAs work in collaboration with local church
pantries, DFCS, and other community resources to ensure that families receive the food that they need.
Senior Nutrition Services: Provides home-delivered and congregate meals to Georgia's seniors.
* Certain services listed may not be provided by all of Georgia's 21 Community Action Agencies (CAAs).
* In addition to the sampling of services listed, each CAA operates programs not listed here that are designed to meet
needs specific to its area. These programs cover a wide range of needs from housing grants and loans to parenting
classes. Contact your local CAA for details on their service offerings.
