Profile of Cerritos Library Staff
Jackie came to the Cerritos Library in 1994 as the Library Secretary.
She participated as a member of the Cerritos Library Expansion
Planning Team where her responsibilities included review, design and
implementation of services for the Cerritos Library, which opened its
doors for service on March 17, 2002.
In 2001, Jackie was promoted to a managerial position, Library
Supervisor where she is responsible for supervising the scheduling and
booking of the conference center; the circulation of library materials;
library security systems and security staff; daily public desk schedules
for all library staff; and building maintenance.
After working in both public and academic libraries for almost 30
years, Becky Ellis was appointed to the position of Public Services
Librarian at the Cerritos Library two years ago. Previously, she had
served as Adult Services Librarian and Electronic Services Librarian at
As part of the Cerritos Library Expansion Planning Team, Becky was
responsible for developing an innovative staff training program, as well
as working closely with the architect and interior designer on the
design of the public service areas in the new facility. She was also
responsible for overseeing Collection Development, programming and
many other activities directly related to public services.
In mid-January 2003, Becky retired from the Cerritos Library and
moved to Fort Bragg in northern California where she immediately
became involved in organizing the research library at the Mendocino
Botanical Garden. But the ties to Cerritos Library remain strong. She
plans to continue to be involved in public library activities and
contribute what she can to helping others to imagine and create the
library of the future.
For the past 19 years Stanley Strauss has worked at the Cerritos
Library, Cerritos, California, in a variety of positions, including Head of
Children's Services, Public Services Librarian, and Administrative
Services Manager. Currently, he is Support Services Librarian, with
oversight responsibilities for Systems, Virtual Services, Technical
Services, Circulation, Facilities Operations, Finance and Public
As a member of the four-person Cerritos Library Expansion Planning
Team his major responsibility included analyzing, designing and
implementing all services for the "library of the future," which opened
in March 2002.
After moving to Southern California to attend high school, he studied
at the University of California, Riverside, and received Bachelor and
Master of Arts degrees in English Literature. His Master in Librarianship
is from the University of Washington.
