Since professional male impersonators were mainstays of both vaudeville and English music halls, it's no wonder amateur theatre featured "trousers roles" as well. Some of the photos in the little grouping are probably from actual shows. But others show off-stage moments of gender play, a lighthearted joke for a small authence. No one could accuse Emma Bouser and Ethel Overheim of not being lighthearted with their over-sized men's clothes, pigeon toes and knockknees. They're not impersonating, they're just funnin'.
