In an interview, Jeremy Podany, director of career services, Indiana University School of Informatics, talked about informatics. talking to computing professors, the term informatics will internationally be defined slightly different than it will be in the name and mission of Indiana University's School of Informatics, but regardless, the key word here is breadth. Informatics encompasses the broad range of computing, technology, information, science, and research, their applications, and their societal implications. Because of the diversity of options a student has with the informatics degree, the university sees all types of students interested in informatics, but the common theme is their interest in using technology in their work environment. Because almost every organization needs technical problem solvers, the students go everywhere. Soft skills in analytical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and written and oral communication are essential for success in the industry. The employment outlook is extremely promising. Students were quite pleased with variety of opportunity.
