Editors of journals, this one included, do their best to choose reviewers (from those available at the time) that understand both the subject matter and the research paradigm adopted by the authors. From my experience (as an author and an editor), authors can help the resubmission process by: providing clear detail on how they have responded to requested changes from reviewers and editors; mounting a case for the responses provided; and acknowledging the input of the reviewers - even if you didn't agree with all their suggestions.
