The traditional evaluation of a stock's value is the price/earnings ratio, often called the P/E ratio. This measures the price of a stock as a multiple of the annual earnings of a stock, not including extraordinary items like one-time asset sales. This can be expressed for the last 12 months (trailing P/E) or for the next 12 rrionths or more (expected P/E).
