The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has proposed a rule that will allow for controlled substances to be ordered electronically, thereby permitting pharmacies to receive, dispense and archive these electronic prescriptions, according to the proposed rule. Additionally, the proposed regulation would reduce paperwork for DEA registrants who dispense or prescribe controlled substances and has the potential to reduce prescription forgery. The proposed regulations would be an addition to, not a replacement of, the existing rules.
