After harrowing accounts of guerrilla fighting and playing "cat and mouse" with the MPLA and Cuban forces, UNITA and the South Africans were ultimately effective in their guerrilla war, enough so to finally bring both sides to the table after the end of the Cold War. The stories of working with the Angolan forces range from comic to tragic, and certain Angolan military leaders demonstrated a distinct lack of basic military knowledge and common sense that led to the deaths of their own men, as well as to those of EO personnel.
