Professional and student industrial engineers (IEs) from 32 countries were represented at the IIE Annual Conference and Expo. The conference, with its theme "How Businesses Take Flight," filled the hotel site, Westin Bayshore Hotel and Marina, with hundreds of informative and practical programs engaging pros and newcomers alike. Attendees progressed through five days of courses that covered basic to advanced industrial engineering methods as well as solutions and research issues that could inspire a new generation of innovation among processes, products and services. Highlights of the annual event included keynote speakers such as Wal-Mart vice chairman Mike Duke. Attendees were also welcomed nightly to different social and networking receptions, including the annual honors and awards dinner recognizing great achievements by IIE members. Not surprisingly, many attendees took time to explore the city of Vancouver, which was a subtle portrait of city and nature that fed an obviously green infrastructure.
