Canada has always been a nation of vast natural resources, but it has been only in the past few years -- as oil has undergone its meteoric rise in price -- that extracting oil from western Canada's oil sands has become financially viable. As the oil sands industry has boomed, companies servicing those doing the extracting have thrived as well. Looked at another way, about 20% of US crude oil and related products come from Canada, and much of this comes from the Alberta oil sands. So Industry in the US -- including service industries -- would be wise to look to Canada to see how they have served the oil sands market. It's an industry that may open up in the US someday.
