The muckraking tradition is alive and well in the Internet Age. Its pioneer is FactCheck.org. Now FactCheck.org has two worthy followers: Politifact and Fact Checker. Politifact is a joint project of the St. Petersburg Times, a respected regional daily, and Congressional Quarterly, a Hall of Fame name in political and news reporting with a commanding presence in print and online realms. Politifact dissects candidates' statements, speeches, interviews, campaign documents, and ads. Fact Checker also has an esteemed parent in The Washington Post, one of the US' great newspapers and a longtime champion of investigative reporting. It devotes the bulk of its attention to the presidential candidates, but it also covers other important political stories.
