The Sun
     And how it helps
        us: Intro

                       Have you ever wondered what
the world would be like without
the sun? Would there be life on
earth? When the sun dies, will
earth be the same? No, earth
would not be the same, and there
would be no life on earth. Our
lives depend on this star, and
earth would be dark, cold, and
                   depressing. What a dull planet!
The Sun: Light
                                Light is very
                                important to us and
          And how it helps us
                                Earth. When you walk
                                outside, what helps
                                you see? Light. Light
                                does many things that
                                we need to survive.
                                But never stare into
                                the sun. Even with sun
                                glasses.You could
                                become blinded. Light
                                helps us with other
                                things too. How many
                                can you think of?
The Sun:
                                                Heat

Sun set To survive, we must have heat. Heat keeps us
warm and keeps us from freezing. In different
seasons, heat from the sun changes because of the
earth’s rotation. Hot in the summer and cold in the
winter. In the spring and the fall, the temperature
is moderate. The temperature doesn't stay the same
(ex. 34 degrees) it changes everyday, but the
temperature is in the same range. That is how heat
           comes from the sun.
Energy
              The sun and how
                 it helps us

Have you ever wondered where energy comes from? Much of
the energy we use comes from the sun. The energy turns on your
lights and anything you can plug in. Energy from the sun is
converted to electricity by solar cells. When the sun is down,
lights (or anything you can plug in) are powered by batteries. As
the sun is rising and setting, lights are powered by both the sun
and batteries. When the sun is up, lights are powered by the sun,
and the solar cells recharge the batteries. On cloudy periods, light
is powered by batteries. That is how energy comes from the sun.
FOOD
       The sun and how it
            helps us

WHEN YOU THINK OF THE SUN, YOU
DON’T THINK OF FOOD. PLANTS NEED THE
   SUN TO GROW. PLANTS CONVERT
SUNLIGHT INTO FOOD ( AND ENERGY).
   THIS IS CALLED PHOTOSYNTHESIS. WHEN
THE PLANTS ARE DONE GROWING IT
SUPPLIES US WITH FOOD. THAT IS HOW WE
   GET FOOD FROM THE SUN.
                                               The
                                               sun

Now you know how important the sun
is to us. It keeps us warm, supplies us with
energy, gives us light and supplies plants
with energy (photosynthesis). But we don’t
know all about the sun. It is a mystery or a
black box. In the future we will learn more
about the sun, but we will never learn
                 everything.
