Monday, May 24: Depart Boston
10:30 am: Arrive to Boston Logan airport (Terminal E). We will meet at the gate where the
          flight will depart.
1:30 pm: Depart Boston (American Airlines Flight AA4622)
         1) Depart Boston at 1:30pm                2) Depart NYC/Kennedy at 5:25pm
              Arrive to NYC/Kennedy at 2:50pm         Arrive to Madrid at 7:20am

Tuesday, May 25: Old Madrid
7:20 am: Arrive in Madrid.
Hotel check–in and Group lunch at La Barraca
Walking tour of Old Madrid: Sol; Kilometer 0; Plaza Mayor; Botin; Mercado San Miguel;
Palacio Real; Opera; and Plaza de Espana
7:00 pm: Dinner on your own.

Wednesday, May 26: Toledo
Breakfast buffet at hotel
9:00 am: Depart hotel for 1/2 day walking excursion of Toledo: Puerta del Sol; La Catedral
La Sinogoga de Transito; Iglesia de Santo Tome)
12:30 pm: Participants pay for own meal and have free afternoon to shop in Toledo
Return to Madrid.

Thursday, May 27: New Madrid
Breakfast buffet at hotel
9:00 am: Visit the Prado Museum
12:00 pm: Lunch – participants make own arrangements and pay for own meal
Optional Activity: Walking tour of New Madrid: Parque Retiro; Correo; Cibeles; Paseo del
Prado; Botanical Gardens
7:30 pm: Group Dinner
Flamenco Show at Casa Patas

Friday, May 28: El Escorial and Valley of the Fallen
 Breakfast buffet at hotel
9:00 am: Depart from hotel
10:00 am: Visit El Escorial

2:00 pm: Visit the Valley of the Fallen

Monday, May 31: Seville-Cordoba-Granada

1:30 pm: Light lunch – Participants make own arrangements and pay for own meal
2:00 pm: Depart for Granada
5:15 pm: Arrive at hotel in Granada

Tuesday, June 1: Granada
9:00 am: Depart hotel for tour of Granada: Albaicin Quarter and La Capilla Real
12:30 pm: Lunch- participants make own arrangements and pay for own meal
Free afternoon to sightsee! Optional Activity: Arabian Baths.

Wednesday, June 2: Granada- Madrid
9:00 am: Depart hotel to visit La Alhambra
11:30 am: Lunch - participants make own arrangements and pay for own meal
5:50 pm- Return to Madrid (Lauren’s Group)

Thursday, June 3: Boston (Lauren’s Group)
Buffet breakfast at hotel.
Depart for Boston (American Flight AA95)
   1) Depart Madrid at 10:00 am           2) Depart NYC/Kennedy at 2:20 pm
       Arrive at NYC/Kennedy at 12:20 pm     Arrive at Boston at 4:00 pm

Dr. McGovern’s group will have a free day in Granada .
Friday, June 4: Boat Journey to Morocco (Dr. McGovern’s Group)
ALGECIRAS - TANGIER - RABAT
9:00 am: Boat journey across the Mediterranean Sea from Algeciras, Spain to Tangier, Morocco
9:30 am: Visit of the women's center DARNA and informal conversation with Moroccan
students about cultural diversity, education and woman's rights in Morocco
12:00 pm: Lunch at women's center DARNA
1:30 pm: Drive to Asilah along the Atlantic coast
3:00 pm: Walk through the Medina (old town) of Asilah
4:00 pm: Drive to Rabat (3 hours)
7:00 pm: Meeting of the home stay families (Three students will stay with one family.)
8:00 pm: Walk through the Medina of Rabat in small groups
8:30 pm: Dinner with home stay families
Individual Time (showing pictures, visiting other families, going to a cafe, etc.)

Saturday, June 5: RABAT
8:00 am: Breakfast
9:30 am: Facilitated discussion “West and Islamic worlds - images about each other”
11:30 am: Visit of the Roman ruins Chellah and the Mausoleum of King Mohammed V
1:30 pm: Lunch with families
3:30 pm: Exploration of Rabat's Andalusian houses in the Kashba and the street life in the
medina market. Individual options: to spend time in the art museum or gallery, at the ocean or in
the gardens of the castle. (This afternoon will be spent in small groups to create space for
authentic experiences of the place and for personal connections. Two American students will be
accompanied by one or two Moroccan students from AMIDEAST/Rabat University. )
6:30 pm: Meeting of all students at the Oudaia gate
7:00 pm: Conversation with a Peace Corps Volunteer about living in Morocco
8:30 pm: Optional hammam (traditional baths)
10:00 pm: Dinner with family

Sunday, June 6: RABAT - RIF MOUNTAINS - CHEFCHAOUEN
7:30 am: Breakfast
8:00 am: Drive to Rif Mountains
12:00 pm: Walk in the Rif Mountains to a family in a mountain village (approx. 30 minutes)
Afternoon: (This is a personal visit: we will keep an eye on time AND be flexible for
experiences.)
Lunch in the house of a family and conversation about education, simplicity of life
and economic challenges of rural areas in Morocco.
5:30 pm: Drive to Chefchaouen
6:30 pm: Short walk through the medina of Chefchaouen with some background information
about its Moorish and Jewish inhabitants and its historic link to Al Andalus.
7:00 pm: Settle in hostal
Individual time for exploring the Medina (We will experience both how beautiful
Chefchaouen is and how damaging tourism can be.)
8:30 pm Special celebration dinner in the Medina of Chefchaouen
10:00 pm Social time on the roof terrace: to share images and thoughts from our journey. (30
min)
Monday, June 7: CHEFCHAOUEN - CEUTA - ALGECIRAS
7:00 am: Optional: Walk through the Medina / looking down at Chefchaouen from outside the
city gate
8:00 am: Drive through mountains, fields and cities to Ceuta (2 hours)
Breakfast on the way
11:00 am: Crossing the Moroccan - Spanish border
2:15 pm: Boat journey across the Strait of Gibraltar (1or 2 hour time difference)
3:30 pm: Good bye in Algeciras, Spain
