Welcome to Clear Lake Middle School, an authorized International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme. The Middle Years
Programme (MYP) is for students aged 11-16, in grades 6-10. Here at Clear Lake we are a school-wide program, which means that
we encourage all of our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to become life-long learners, critical thinkers, problem-solvers, and
responsible, compassionate global citizens. The three main components of MYP are communication, holistic learning, and
international mindedness. Clear Lake also offers an Honors Program for those students who wish to pursue a more challenging,
yet stimulating curricular study. These students have the opportunity to continue their MYP studies at Ranum High School for
grades 9-10, with the additional opportunity to apply for the Diploma Programme in grades 11 and 12. Students who complete
the Diploma Programme can acquire college credit and are highly regarded by many colleges and universities.
MYP incorporates five Areas of Interaction into all academic courses: Approaches to Learning – “learning how to learn”, Community
and Service – “doing something good without getting paid”, Human Ingenuity “creating things that can impact the world”,
Environments – “taking care of our world today and keeping it fit for the future”, and Health and Social Education –
“making good choices for your mind and your body.”

people and their opinions, and promoting life-long learning. The MYP curriculum consists of eight content areas of study:
