District 34 ISAT Highlights:
Antioch Community Consolidated School District 34 made Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) according to
the federal No Child Left Behind Act in 2005. Our state improvement status continues to be listed as
“Academic Early Warning” as a result of not making 2004 AYP within the subcategory of Students with
Disabilities for eighth grade students at our middle school.

All student groups, including Aggregate for all Students, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black Students, Hispanic
Students, White-Non-Hispanic Students, Students with Disabilities, and Economically Disadvantaged
Students, meet and exceed AYP goals in the content areas of reading, mathematics, and science. The
district also met AYP goals for percentage of students tested and student attendance rate.

The following student subgroups did not count towards AYP in 2005 due to an insufficient testing
numbers in the categories of Native American, LEP (Limited English Proficient), Students with
Disabilities (504), and Migrant Students.

2005 District Reading Achievement: Reading achievement on ISAT is tested at the third, sixth, and
eighth grade levels with 77% of the district’s third graders, 61% of sixth graders, and 79% of eighth
graders meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards.

2005 District Mathematics Achievement: Mathematics achievement on ISAT is tested at the third,
sixth, and eighth grade levels with 89% of the district’s third graders, 80% of sixth graders, and 62% of
eighth graders meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards.

2005 District Science Achievement: Science achievement on ISAT is tested at the fourth and seventh
grade levels with 73% of the district’s fourth graders and 84% of seventh graders meeting or exceeding
the Illinois Learning Standards.

Five-Year District 34 Trend Data in Reading, Mathematics, and Science:
2001-2005
The district has made some gains in test scores since 2001 in some grade levels in each subject area
tested. During the past five years scores have not been on a stable incline, rather scores have risen and
declined in some testing areas with each new student testing group and year. Analysis of trend data
enables us to set priorities and assist schools in continuing improvement for all students of the district.

Positive Trends:
District-wide Reaching Achievement: A review of the last 5 years of district ISAT test scores
reveals a 4% growth in student reading achievement in grade 3 and a 12% growth in student
reading achievement in grade 8. Our highest reading achievement testing scores, since 2001, for
grades 3 and 8 were achieved in 2005.

District-wide Mathematics Achievement: A review of the last 5 years of district ISAT test
scores reveals a 7% growth in student mathematics achievement in grade 5 and an 11% growth in
student mathematics achievement in grade 8. While a review of the last 5 years of district ISAT
test scores reveals a 0% growth in student mathematics achievement in grade 3, the third grade
math scores continue to be the strongest in the district with 89% of students meeting or exceeding
the Illinois Learning Standards. Our highest mathematics achievement testing scores, since 2001,
for all tested grades (3, 5, and 8) were achieved in 2005.

District-wide Science Achievement: A review of the last 5 years of district ISAT test scores
reveals a 2% growth in student science achievement in grade 7.
Negative Trends:
District-wide Reaching Achievement: While reading scores improved at the third and eighth
grade levels, a review of the last 5 years of district ISAT test scores reveals a 7% decline in
student reading achievement at the fifth grade level.

District-wide Science Achievement: A review of the last 5 years of district ISAT test scores

2005 Antioch 34 District-wide Reading Achievement:

     Concerns:
2005 ISAT reading achievement gains at the third grade level at WCP and at the fifth grade level
in all of our elementary school has been insufficient. All of our elementary schools evidenced a
decline in reading achievement scores in fifth grade from 2004-2005 with scores ranging from
52%-64% of students meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards. Reading achievement
continues to lag behind mathematics achievement.

2005 Antioch 34 District-wide Mathematics Achievement:

     Positive Gains:
2005 Mathematics achievement gains at the third grade level at AES, Oakland, and WCP were
very strong with 85-90% of students meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards.
Mathematics achievement gains at the fifth grade level at Oakland and WCP were very strong
with 83-90% of students meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards. While the math
scores for eighth grade students are of significant concern, they have risen 11% since 2001.

     Concerns:
Mathematics achievement at the fifth grade level at Antioch Elementary School has declined
during the past four years with 63% of students meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning
Standards, and at the eighth grade level at AUGS with 62% of students meeting or exceeding the
Illinois Learning Standard. Both of these areas are a cause for concern. While mathematics is an
area of strength for our district overall, continued growth in needed at fifth grade at AES and at
     eighth grade at AUGS.

2005 Antioch 34 District-wide Science Achievement:

     Positive Gains:
2005 Mathematics achievement gains at the third grade level at Oakland Elementary School with
83% of students meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards, and at the seventh grade
level at AUGS with 84% of students meeting or exceeding the Illinois Learning Standards.

     Concerns:
Progress in science achievement at the fourth grade level at Antioch Elementary School and at
W.C.Petty School has been insufficient. Continued growth is needed science achievement,
particularly in the areas noted above.
