Steps to career planning success
Conduct a Self-Assessment
The best way to begin the process of seeking a career is to complete a personal inventory.
Abilities, interests, and attitudes are reveled during a personal inventory. It is also important to
review career development from time to time in order to determine if the career path is still
relevant and satisfying. Career development is not a one-shot process. Just like the numerous
choices made throughout life, career choices affect one’s growth and development …; therefore,
they need to be made in a thoughtful and systematic way.
The self-assessment also includes raising questions such as the following:
How much thought has been given to what is wanted?
What kind of salary is needed/desired?
What kind of organization would be acceptable?
Would a change in geographic location be considered?
These questions need to be answered before embarking on a search.
