Dear Campus Kids,
The first summer I was a camp
counselor, one of the other counselors, a
guy from Sweden, taught us a beautiful
song (in Swedish!). Translated, the
words are:
Who can sail without wind?
Who can row without oars?
Who can say farewell to a
friend without shedding a
tear?
I can sail without wind,
I can row without oars,
I cannot say farewell to a
friend without shedding a
tear.
That song runs through my head
on this final day of camp. By now I’ve
experienced many last days of camp, but
the parting never becomes easier.
This summer has been about

Hello CK ’09. It’s Mike from Team A again. Week 8 was absolutely INCREDIBLE!!!!! I loved every moment and I
sincerely wish that this week alone could replay itself for eternity. However, that is not the case, and we all must
come to the horrible reality that CK is over. Today is not a day to cry over the fact that summer is winding down
and that a 6-letter word that shall not be mentioned here is rapidly approaching. The purpose of this day is to be
happy over all the things that we accomplished over your 2, 4, 6, or even 8 weeks here. As you guys read this, I
want everyone to stop and write down 5 stand-out moments from your time here at Blair Academy this summer.
Then, I want you guys to tape it to a wall on your room. Whenever you feel down, just look at your list and it will
help to put a smile on your face as you remember all the memories of camp. Now, I want to thank everyone here
(campers and staff members alike) for helping me have the BEST SUMMER OF MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!! Having been a
camper here for 6 years, I can truly say, without any doubts, this summer easily trumps all of them. I’m going to
miss you all so much, so don’t hesitate to keep in touch! I leave you with a quote from Mark Twain, the renowned
American writer. “What is human life? The first third a good time; the rest remembering about it.” Have a great
year everybody, keep in touch, and I’ll hopefully see you at the reunion!

Wow what a week and what a summer it’s been. I
had the best time ever. I am sooooooooo happy! I really
owe my happiness to all the campers and staff that joined

give a special thank you to all the fine arts counselors:

December 6th!
Hey everyone at CK.
My name is Zack Botos, but most of you probably know me as just “Botos”. While you are reading this ar-
ticle I will be finishing my 7th and final summer as a camper here. During these summers I have made
friendships that will last a lifetime, and have also made tons of amazing memories.
Campus Kids will always be a part of my life, and I cannot imagine a summer without it. Even an ordinary
moment here is incredible, and that is what is so special about this place. As I am reflecting, I want to
take time to thank everyone that has made my seven summers here amazing. All the counselors and
staff assistants, Tom, Jeremy, Stu and Teri, and especially all of the friends I've made.
This camp is the most amazing place ever, and it wouldn’t be the same without the awesome people
that have kept this place going strong every year. I hope everyone has a great rest of the summer, and
hopefully I'll see everyone again.
-Botos

BROLAND NEWS
Hello Everyone. Being that it’s the last Sundial of the summer, I originally felt the need to write something profound, astute,
and life affirming. To be honest though, I feel that at this point, I don’t have too much to prove to my audience of readers, so
instead I’m just going to be as honest as I possibly can be.
If you’re reading this Sundial, you believe in camp, and that’s all there is to it. It amazes me that summer after summer I can
still be affected by camp. I love camp because of the change it instills in people. Young campers become more independent.
Older boys turn into young gentleman. Young counselors become more responsible. Its truly a wonderful experience to
watch a camper completely transform to a different person by the end of a session. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
Outside (and inside) of camp, I am a musician. As much as I believe in camp, I believe in music. I try not to discriminate
against music, but obviously there is some that I like more than others. One of my all-time favorite artists is the British singer-
songwriter extraordinaire Sting. As much as I love music, sometimes I don’t like describing the way I feel or the way a situa-
tion is by quoting a song because it may seem cheesy or cliché, but these things become cliché for a reason; and the reason
is because they’re true or people relate to them. And as we reach the end of camp, its hard to not feel an extreme mix of
sadness but overall satisfaction and joy with the wonderful time we’ve had here. So, as I we reach Friday of week 8, I think of
Sting’s “I’m So Happy I Can’t Stop Crying.” As Sting explains the difficulties of mixed emotions he writes:
“I took a walk alone last night
I looked up at the stars
To try and find an answer in my life...
Something made me smile...
Something about the universe and how it's all connected.”
I’m not sure if this really relates to camp, or the camp experience. But I am sure that we are all connected, and camp helps
to create or secure those connections among people. I can’t thank all of the members of Bro Meets World enough; counsel-
ors and campers alike have made this a tremendous summer for me and for each other.
“I’m so happy I can’t stop crying, I’m so happy I’m laughing through my tears.”
Thanks for the laughs, the tears, and most importantly, the memories.

Goodbyes are some of the most difficult things in the world; which is why I don’t really like them. You could say I hate
goodbyes. I prefer, instead, to say “cya later.” “Goodbye” implies that you will never see someone, or a place, ever again. At
camp, I never want to think that I won’t see someone again or, heaven forbid, camp again. “Cya later” is much more positive.
The phrase is really self explanatory. It tells someone that you will in fact see him/her at some later date. It relieves the burden
of thinking about not seeing a friend again. It even has the power to dry crying eyes. So, instead of saying “goodbye” to some-
one, I hope that you all said “cya later” to all of your friends, counselors, and to the camp. When I leave on Saturday, I hope to
have not said a single goodbye.
With all of the emotions and excitement that embody week 8, it is easy to lose track of all the fun activities that still go on
at camp. The finals of our football tournament were played on Wednesday, with the Vikings coming out on top over the Steelers
(a Super Bowl foreshadowing, perhaps?) Thanks, Dominic, for hosting a great and fun tournament! Our campers continued to
excel in the pool, and will be receiving certificates highlighting their accomplishments. Many continued thanks to our head swim
instructors Tom Peck, Hannah, and Lisa for all the hard work they’ve done in the pool this summer and for taking the time to
make those certificates. And to my sports counselors: Tom, Slim, Emma, Dylan, Todd, Dominic, and Mike W., thank you all for
an amazing summer.
I suppose I’ll get started on my “no goodbyes” goal right now. Have a
wonderful year, and I’ll cya later. Love and respect,
Donald Cleary
