Apple iPhone/iPod Touch (iTouch) by Roxanne of L‐Books
Devlyn, I have a paper on our group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lesfic_ebooks/ )in the files area, about the readers on the iTouch. The Bookshelf Application (in Apple store apps) is the best for the iTouch and the eReaders new release for the iTouch will now read eReader eBooks from other sites, but not a direct download. Download to computer, than download to iTouch. But I think the Bookshelf is the better one. Thank You, Roxanne Jones http://L‐Book.com
The following has been taken from L‐Books. Visit their group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Lesfic_ebooks/ for more Technical opinions and directives. This is time sensitive information. Research and written July 15, 2008. I had a group member contact L‐Book Support with her problem with the iPhone/iTouch and eReader. I thought I would post the results of our research in our group files section. eReader for iPhone (eReader format) EBooks in eReader format for other sites, (then Apple's App store) or personal content (you created your own eBook using eReader studio) will not yet work on the eReader iPhone application. This includes PDAFiction eReader formatted eBooks. eReader.com was rushed by Apple to finish the port and by doing so, they only ported what they had to for Apple to release it. They are now finishing the complete port. They hope to release the new version by Aug. 1st and to watch for the announcement on the eReader.com website. The new release will allow iPhone / iTouch to read all eBooks from any web site in the eReader format, which includes L‐Book and PDAFiction. You can then download the new release from eReader.com or from Apple app store.
Bookshelf Application eBook reader The Bookshelf application eBook reader for iPhone from Apple app store is not free, it is 9.99. Purchase and install this software on an iPhone, it will read eBooks in the formats listed below. The iPhone's firmware must be 2.0 and the newest version of iTunes. WIFI is required to download. Here is the website of the developer, see web site for all the information at http://www.iphonebookshelf.com/ He states in future versions they are adding eReader, Adobe and iSilo formats, which is great for L‐Book and PDAFiction readers. The Bookshelf does support Mobipocket (non DRM). That means it will NOT work with Kindle or Mobipocket eBooks purchased from Mobipocket.com, Amazon.com or any online eBook store that sells DRM protected Mobipocket eBooks, like Books on Board.com, libri.de, ebookmall.com, lauriejbooks.com and ebooksabouteverything.com, plus others. But it will support all of L‐Book's eBooks in the Mobipocket format. L‐Book does not encrypt any of L‐Book's formats, even Adobe we only use the password protect so one cannot print the book. But all excerpts and free short stories in Adobe are printable. If you want to purchase Bookshelf it will run all of L‐Books, SCP and Bold Strokes eBooks that are in the Mobipocket format. Plus L‐Book's and PDAFictions iSilo and eReader formats in there next releases. BookShelf Supported File Formats on iPhones and iTouch BookShelf currently supports the following book formats with more on the way:
• • • • • •
Plain Text [.txt] HTML with images [.html] FictionBook2 with images [.fb2] PalmDoc / AportisDoc [.pdb] MobiPocket (unencrypted) [.pdb, .prc, .mobi] Plucker with images [.pdb]
Please note that at this time, BookShelf does not support PDB files which were created for the iSilo or eReader programs. Support for these formats is planned for a future release.

I would like to thank Roxanne for writing this guide and for allowing me to use it on my web site. L‐Books also include listening books for the visually impaired and those embarking on road trips. These listening books are an easy listen and well worth checking out. Go to http://l‐book.com/index.html to have a listen. Kudos Devlyn
