    the chronological order of the story. The beginning, middle, and the end of the story must be
    described. The middle should be longer than the beginning and the end.

                                    The teacher explains that students are to imagine that they are the author of the book and they must write
                                    a new beginning. The characters should be the same and the new beginning should connect to the rest of
                                    the original story in a logical way. The students should be encouraged to be as creative as possible.

    The teacher explains that students are to focus on the main problem of the story. This is
    the central problem that the main characters are involved with. One character may be
    trying to solve the problem while another character may have created the problem.
